Aston Villa vs Everton Bet Builder Tips – A 16/1 tip as Lampard and Gerrard meet for the first time

Aston Villa betting tips

It’s the first meeting as managers between two of the Premier League’s greatest ever as Steven Gerrard welcomes Frank Lampard to Villa Park in the early kick-off this weekend.

Both Aston Villa and Everton are coming off the back of losses on the opening day, and in truth, neither side looked at the races in the first game of the 2022/23 season. It now makes this game an enticing encounter, and with still so much to prove from both Lampard and Gerrard at the helm of their clubs, this game could go either way.

Villa are the favourites, and based on the 1-0 win for Villa against the Toffees back in January, this makes sense. I do think Gerrard should have enough in the tank to get all three points against his former rival, but Everton have to bounce back after another opening day defeat.

🥅BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE

Villa’s 2-0 loss to Bournemouth was about as underwhelming as a season opener can get. They had 15 efforts towards goal and saw just two of these hit the target. What’s more, from 66% of the ball, it was only Danny Ings who managed to test Mark Travers in the Cherries’ goal with a shot on target. Gerrard’s side did show attacking intent, and in truth, another game would have probably seen them get one or two goals, but Bournemouth’s defence was excellent.

Everton barely had a sniff of goal in the loss to Chelsea, but they still managed to threaten Edouard Mendy with four shots on goal from eight efforts. At the same time, Paddy Power has Everton priced at 15/4 to win here and Villa at 3/4, which could mean this game is a bit closer than some are predicting.

With a bounce back to form vital for either side, and how Lampard and Gerrard will want to get one over on the other again, I see both teams getting at least a goal here.

🎯COUTINHO 2+ SHOTS ON TARGET

Philippe Coutinho will look to once again heap misery on the Merseyside club after dominating them so many times with Liverpool. The Brazilian has not lost a single one of the 10 outings against the Toffees, and he was even active in the 1-0 win at Goodison Park for Gerrard’s men just a week after joining the club on loan from Barcelona.

Coutinho also has three goals and two assists from the 10 unbeaten games against Everton, and after a torrid display in the loss to Bournemouth last weekend, he’ll be eager to show the Premier League what he’s all about once again.

Villa are rightfully the favourites for this game, in my opinion, and I do believe the win for them will likely come through the former Liverpool star.

🚩OVER 11.5 CORNERS

Everton’s defence was peppered with tension throughout the loss to Chelsea. Although they let in just one goal, given how there was no out-and-out striker on the pitch for the London outfit, they could well have scored more on another day.

What’s worse, however, is how Everton conceded a stunning 16 corners on opening day at Goodison Park to the Blues. No side across the opening weekend let in more, and as the Toffees had four corners of their own, there were 20 in total that day.

Villa saw five corners for them in the defeat to Bournemouth, while the Cherries also had five. Moreover, Lampard’s main threat remains from set pieces with the options he has in those scenarios.

⚽OVER 2.5 GOALS

Despite a 1-0 win for Villa last time out and two under 2.5 draws within the past five games between these two, seven of the past 11 games involving the Villains and the Toffees has ended with over 2.5 goals.

What’s more, based on the dreadful outings last weekend from either side, I do expect goals.
