The Championship 2021/22 Outright Predictions: Winner, Promotion, Relegation and Top Goalscorer

Championship betting tips outright

The Sky Bet Championship starts this weekend and we have taken a look through the latest odds and picked out some outright betting tips for the main markets, including which team will be promoted and relegated, and the top goalscorer.

Things get underway on Friday 6th August with Bournemouth vs West Brom and both of these teams are towards the top of the betting odds for promotion back to the Premier League, so it is a big game to kick-off the season.

We could have one of the best Championship seasons ever this year, with some big name signings both player-wise and manager-wise and there are also some big teams set to struggle at the bottom of the Championship table. Derby and Huddersfield look like they’re in for a tough season in particular.

Top Championship Tips for 2021/22 Season

  • Fulham to win the Championship – 11/2
  • Bournemouth to be promoted – 10/3
  • Huddersfield to be relegated – 10/3
  • Dominic Solanke to be top goalscorer – 18/1

2021/22 Championship Winner Prediction

  • Fulham – 11/2
  • West Brom – 13/2
  • Sheffield United – 15/2
  • Bournemouth – 9/1
  • Cardiff – 16/1
  • Middlesbrough – 16/1

The three relegated sides are all at the top of the market but Sheffield United wouldn’t even enter our calculations for promotion or winning the Championship this season. Fulham have made some strong investments and have appointed former Everton and Watford manager Marco Silva to try and guide them back to the top flight. Their former manager, Scott Parker, has landed himself the Bournemouth job and he looks to have a strong squad to aim for the Premier League with.

On paper at least, Fulham have the best starting 11 in this league by a wide margin and if Marco Silva can adapt to managing at this level then Fulham are the obvious choice here. Harry Wilson looks set to be a great signing for this level and they still have Aleksandar Mitrovic, who has thrived at this level before.

Who will be promoted from the Championship?

  • Fulham – 15/8
  • Sheffield United – 11/4
  • West Brom – 11/4
  • Bournemouth – 10/3
  • Nottingham Forest – 5/1
  • Middlesbrough – 5/1
  • Cardiff – 9/2
  • Stoke – 9/2
  • Swansea – 11/2
  • Barnsley – 6/1

Along with Fulham, we’re going to have a bet on one of the other teams to be promoted to the Premier League. West Brom are in a good position to go straight back up but there is a big unknown with how their new manager Valérien Ismaël will deal with a promotion push in this league. The former Barnsley man comes with a big reputation but managing a squad full of quality will bring different pressures.

However, our betting tip for promotion is Bournemouth. They have scored plenty of goals in pre-season but fell short last season despite going on a seven-game winning streak before winning just one of their last five. Now they have a proven Championship manager in Scott Parker in charge they should be a more settled team this season and have quality players throughout their team. Dominic Solanke will be key to their chances and this could be the season he comes into his own.

Who will be relegated from the Championship?

  • Peterborough – 3/1
  • Blackpool – 3/1
  • Huddersfield – 10/3
  • Coventry – 7/2
  • Bristol City – 7/2
  • Preston – 9/2
  • Hull – 4/1
  • Luton – 4/1
  • Birmingham – 9/2

Newly promoted Peterborough and Blackpool are favourites to go straight back down to League One and we usually see one or more of the newly promoted teams drop straight back to the third tier. Things are so bad at Derby County at the moment that the bookies have decided to price up Championship relegation without Derby, which tells you all you need to know about Wayne Rooney’s side.

The selection for relegation is going to be Huddersfield. They had a terrible season last time around but managed to climb out of trouble eventually. Jordan Rhodes has returned to the club on a free transfer from Sheffield Wednesday and there have been a few more additions to the squad, which were much needed. However, Peterborough, Blackpool and Hull look to have a realistic chance of surviving in this league and Huddersfield manager Carlos Corberán has still not proved himself at this level. A slow start will likely see more upheaval in the dugout and looks at the stats from last season, there isn’t much positive news. Huddersfield had the third xG per game (1.03) and third-highest xG conceded per game (1.48) last season and the signings don’t look set to change that.

Who will be 2021/22 Championship top goalscorer?

  • Aleksander Mitrovic – 6/1
  • Adam Armstrong – 6/1
  • Kieffer Moore – 9/1
  • Karlan Grant – 14/1
  • Charlie Austin – 14/1
  • Lucas Joao – 16/1
  • Dominic Solanke – 18/1
  • Jonson Clarke-Harris – 18/1
  • Callum Robinson – 25/1

Top goalscorer betting in the Football League is always a wide open market and this season is no different. Mitrovic has to be respected back in this division but he failed to perform in the Premier League last season. Adam Armstrong scored 28 goals for Blackburn last season and it’s perhaps a surprise that no Premier League club has taken a punt on him and Wales forward Keiffer Moore is fancied to go well again after his 20 goal tally last season.

However, with Bournemouth predicted to have a good season, the betting tip for Championship top goalscorer this season is going to be Dominic Solanke. He has had a good pre-season and scored in the 5-0 League Cup win over MK Dons this weekend. If Bournemouth are to go one better and get promoted to the Premier League this season, then Solanke will be the man to fire them there.
