Reasons for this Weekend’s Acca Tips

Two matches from the FA Cup Third Round are included in this Saturday accumulator bet tip with improving teams Reading and Southampton both hosting lower league opposition. The other three selections feature matches in the National League with in-form outfits Barrow and Harrogate aiming to seal another three home points while Barnet will hope to extend a current unbeaten sequence of form dating back to November when welcoming Halifax.

Reading vs Blackpool Prediction – Reading win.

Four successive Championship victories over the festive period and just one goal conceded has allowed Reading to climb into a mid-table position and they will be confident of further progression in the FA Cup when hosting this third-round tie. The Royals have beaten Derby and QPR in their last two matches at the Madejski Stadium while visitors Blackpool are winless in five League One games since beating local rivals Fleetwood at the beginning of December. Although the Tangerines have drawn several recent away games, they are winless on the road since mid-September and facing a likely defeat at Reading.

Southampton vs Huddersfield Prediction – Southampton win.

Despite winning three of their five previous Championship games, a demoralising 5-2 home defeat by fellow lower league strugglers Stoke will have dented confidence levels at Huddersfield. Three losses in five fixtures on the road will also be a concern ahead of this FA Cup tie at Southampton with the hosts claiming ten points from four matches during the Premier League festive schedule. The Saints have improved significantly in recent weeks following a 9-0 home defeat back in October and they should seal their passage into the next round.

Barnet vs Halifax Prediction – Barnet win.

Since losing at leaders Barrow 2-1 during mid-November, Barnet have stayed unbeaten in National League action and they have won their last three games at the Hive. Visitors Halifax are winless in four games on the road and were beaten 5-1 at Stockport in their previous away fixture. The Shaymen were also beaten 2-0 at Yeovil during early December when playing against ten opponents for most of the match and they are likely to face another defeat at an improving Barnet team.

Barrow vs Ebbsfleet Prediction – Barrow win.

Unbeaten in National League action since suffering an unfortunate 4-2 loss at Torquay back in mid-October, Barrow returned to winning ways on New Year’s Day via a 1-0 victory at Chorley. The Cumbrians had previously drawn three successive competitive matches after seven consecutive wins, and they now host an Ebbsfleet team which has won just once in league action from the beginning of November onwards. Although the Fleet have been draw specialists in recent weeks, they are unlikely to avoid defeat at Barrow.

Harrogate vs Maidenhead Prediction – Harrogate win.

Five competitive victories from the beginning of December onwards including three against Hartlepool has underlined the potential of Harrogate as genuine National League promotion contenders. Two successive clean sheets have also served notice that the defensive frailties evident in recent weeks could be diminishing. The North Yorkshire outfit will now be aiming to seal a ninth win in eleven games at Wetherby Road when hosting a Maidenhead team currently struggling for consistency. Although the Magpies are unbeaten in two games at York Road since losing 3-0 at Notts County, they may be unable to contain their in-form opponents.
