Graham Potter’s Brighton are far from foot-perfect on the road, however, they should have enough to see off out-of-form Bournemouth on Tuesday night. The Seagulls could only pick up a point at the weekend, but will be feeling confident enough ahead of this fixture. They’ve beaten Arsenal and taken a point away from Selhurst Park and were only narrowly edged out by Liverpool, Spurs and Everton. Bournemouth are yet to score in the PL in 2020 with their last goal coming on Boxing Day. Eddie Howe is increasingly under pressure as the Cherries slip towards the Championship. They’ve failed to score three of their last four home matches and could find it difficult to keep Brighton are arms length.
Barnsley created enough chances to win the game against Bristol City at the weekend, yet the Tykes were unable to find the back of the net. Luke Thomas and Connor Chaplin both missed chances and Gerhard Struber will be hoping that his side will be more composed in front of goal this time around. The South Yorkshire side have lost just one of their last nine at Oakwell and they have recently seen off Huddersfield, Hull and QPR at this ground. They are facing a Preston side who have the best home form in the division, yet struggle to recreate it on their travels. PNE have scored just eight times away from home and could find it difficult to break down the home defence in this midweek meeting.
Colchester occupy the final play-off spot and too many draws have prevented John McGreal’s side from climbing further up the table. They did get back to winning ways at the weekend with a narrow 2-1 victory over struggling Macclesfield and they’ll be hoping to make it back-to-back home victories. At home, they’ve kept just two clean sheets since the beginning of September. The pressure is mounting of Gary Bowyer at Bradford after his side blew a 2 goal lead at home to Scunthorpe on Saturday. Away from home, they were defeated at Crawley last time out and have generally struggled on the road. October 12th was the last time they picked up three points outside of West Yorkshire although they’ve only failed to score twice on the road all season.
Third placed Peterborough Sports are riding high in the Southern League and they should be able to take three points from this tie. They’ve won seven of twelve at home and have scored in every single game so far. Recent victories include 6-0, 7-1 and 5-4 and they should be able to take advantage of an inconsistent Hitchin. They were beaten by Rushall Olympic at the weekend (4-2) and they face another strong home side on Tuesday night. Peterborough Sports have scored 15 more goals than Rushall Olympic so they should be able to knock a few past their opponents here.
