There’s a real battle at the bottom of the table on Saturday afternoon as Stoke travel to Oakwell to face Barnsley. The Tykes have noticeably improved in recent weeks and since dispensing with the services of Daniel Stendel, they’ve picked up some useful points. They’re unbeaten in three home games and have drawn against Bristol City, Swansea and Derby County. They also picked up a morale-boosting last-minute point against Bristol City in front of the Sky cameras eight days ago. They are fighting for one another and in Cauley Woodrow, they have a player who is scoring goals at Championship level. Stoke lost again on Monday night and were second-best to leaders West Brom. The Potters did come out battling in the second half, but they made sloppy errors at the back once again and that has been their downfall all season. They might not have appointed a new manager by the time this game kicks off and Rory Delap will once again take charge. It’s looking grim for the division’s bottom club and it might not get any better in South Yorkshire.
Hull are one of the form teams in the division and surprisingly stuck three past Fulham last weekend. The Tigers have plenty of threats going forward and have found the net in all but one of their matches at the KCOM so far. The likes of Jarrod Bowen, Kamil Grosicki and Jackson Irvine have all looked good in recent weeks whilst the emergence of Leonardo da Silva Lopes is also good for the club. Grant McCann’s side are always a threat and even though they are facing the league leaders on Saturday, they’ll be expected to find the back of the net. WBA have actually been better at keeping clean sheets on the road, although this could be a tough afternoon for Slaven Bilic’s side. They’ve not conceded more than a single goal away from home this season, but that would be enough to land the BTTS here.
Swansea’s fantastic away form continued last weekend with a last-gasp success over Wigan at the DW. It’s not an easy place to go and Steve Cooper’s side must take credit for battling until the very end. They face another tough away task with a visit to Hillsborough this afternoon. Wednesday held Leeds to goalless draw last weekend, but they’ve only netted seven times in front of the home fans and it’s that lack of firepower in South Yorkshire which could enable to visitors to get something from the game. The Welsh side haven’t lost on the road and have been involved in some fairly tight games, however they’ve already been to Elland Road, Loftus Road, Pride Park and the Valley and managed to keep their unbeaten in tact. They should be able to get at least a point here.
