Cheltenham International Meeting Day 2 Tips from @Rideout_Racing (Saturday 10th December)

Cheltenham Festival 2021

Cheltenham survived the weather on Friday and it remains to be seen if we will be going racing on Saturday after more freezing temperatures threaten to get into the ground overnight.

The action gets underway at 12.05pm and we’ve got a preview and tip from all seven races.

As always, we’d advise trying to get your hands on a free bet to spend on the day’s racing and this week we’ve got a bet £15 get £10 sign-up offer from HeySpin. Simply open an account and bet £15 or more on a horse to get a £10 free bet credited to your account.

Cheltenham Tips Saturday 10th December

  • 12.05pm – Scriptwriter (10/3)
  • 12.40pm – Monmiral (1/3)
  • 1.15pm – Editeur Du Gite (5/2)
  • 1.50pm – War Lord (17/2)
  • 2.25pm – I Like To Move It (9/4)
  • 3.00pm – Weveallbeencaught (6/4)
  • 3.35pm – Lady Adare (4/1)

12.05pm – Juvenile opener can go according to Script

The opening race of the day is the Grade 2 JCB Triumph Trial Juvenile Hurdle. Won by the likes of Defi Du Seuil and Apple’s Shakira, the winner of this contest is often a smart type. Nusret looked just that when powering home to win a Punchestown Juvenile Hurdle. Daryl Jacob went over to Ireland for just the one ride that day so you would have to think connections think he’s fairly useful. At the prices, I think he worth taking on. Scriptwriter 10/3 must concede weight to his main market rivals, but I was extremely taken with the way he won over course and distance last time out. He beat the reopposing Perseus Way who majorly franked the form when bolting up by 24 lengths on his next start. He is certainly a danger, but I thought Scriptwriter was better than the winning margin suggested. He travelled strongly into the race and ran extremely green when hitting the front. I would anticipate another step forward and trainer Milton Harris was extremely complimentary in his post-race comments. With ground to suit at a track we know he likes, I think Scripwriter can continue his winning form over hurdles.

12.40pm – Monmiral can put this to bed with the minimum of fuss

Next on the card we have a Novices’ Chase over an extended two and a half miles. With just the three runners set to go to post this looks like an excellent opportunity for Monmiral 3/10 to gain his first success over fences. On official ratings and all known form, he’s comfortably clear of both Kissesforkatie and Art Approval. Despite being put in his place on chase debut being the incredibly smart Jonbon, I thought Monmiral jumped well in the main and this step up in trip should suit. He should take the world of beating.

1.15pm – Classy front runner will be hard to peg back

The third race of the day is the Lycetts Insurance Brokers Handicap Chase over two miles and half a furlong. I think last season’s defending champion Editeur Du Gite 5/2 will take all the beating. To my amazement, he was dropped in last time out and having nearly tripled in price before the off, the run screamed pipe opener. With that run under his belt, I think we will see a return to front running tactics, and I believe he will be hard to peg back. He ran a huge race in last seasons Grand Annual on unsuitably heavy ground and runs here off the same mark. Niall Houlihan has a great relationship with the horse and takes off a handy 3lbs. With course form figures of 1143 and the with the stable banging in the winners, I think Editeur Du Gite will have too much class for his seven rivals and he can burn them off from the front.

1.50pm – Arkle form to get even hotter

Fifteen runners go to post for the extremely valuable Ais December Gold Cup Handicap Chase over an extended two and a half miles. The Paddy Power Gold Cup form is well represented with a handful of these looking to back up good performances in the November feature. Il Rodito heads the current betting from Stolen Silver who unseated three from home in the Paddy Power. I wouldn’t be totally convinced about Il Ridoto’s finishing effort and I still have question marks surrounding Stolen Silver’s handicap mark of 150. Frero Banbou is an interesting contender up in trip, but I have a niggling doubt he may want soft ground to be seen to best effect. Edwardstone absolutely bolted up in the Tingle Creek last weekend, and the likes of Blue Lord, Coeur Sublime and Brave Seasca have run extremely well on their first starts this season to give the Arkle form a major boost. War Lord 17/2 was a staying on fourth that day and certainly shaped as though this intermediate trip would suit. He duly stepped up in trip at Aintree and ran well to finish second behind the smart Millers Bank. I don’t think he was at his best that day and he comes here after a nice pipe opener in the Haldon Gold Cup. He was well beaten that day, but the form isn’t bad and this race has been the target. Back up to two and a half miles, he should be primed for this, and I think he’s potentially well treated off a mark of 148.

2.25pm – Lots to like about I Like To Move It

The feature race of the day is the Grade 2 Unibet International Hurdle over two miles and one furlong. This looks a classy, but trappy little affair. Epatante brings all the best form into the race and at the weights looks the clear pick on official ratings. I do wonder whether this is a slight afterthought having run in the Fighting Fifth just two weeks ago. The plan had always been for her to go to Newcastle with Constitution Hill set to go to Ascot. Constitution Hill duly destroyed Epatante and I wonder if connections have opted to take their chance here rather than meet again in the Christmas Hurdle. She will need to be on her A game to take this and I would just wonder if she may be vulnerable to an improving rival. Knappers Hill seems to be fulfilling his potential, having won his last four starts. I anticipate Cheltenham as a track to suit, but he does have to concede weight all round and I would question the strength of his form. First Street ran a stormer in the County Hurdle and that form behind the extremely impressive State Man looks even better now. Like Epatante, he faces a relatively quick turnaround and was well beaten on his previous start in graded company.

I think the major improver in this field could be I Like To Move It 9/4 for team Twiston-Davies. An emphatic winner of the Greatwood Hurdle, he goes particularly well at the track and should enjoy the good ground. The Greatwood didn’t look the strongest of renewals, but the form is okay. Harbour Lake (3rd), beaten 18 lengths has gone on to hit the frame, whilst Mark Of Gold (7th), beaten 29 lengths, has come out and won since. Nigel Twiston-Davies has an excellent record in this race and comparisons have been made between this fella and the stables iconic The New One. I Like To Move It is entitled to improve for that first run and I think if Epatante isn’t at her best, he is the one they all have to beat.

3.00pm – Giant novice can land the Twiston-Davies double

The penultimate race of the day is the Grade 2 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle over three miles. Paul Nicholls must rate Outlaw Peter fairly highly as he threw him into graded company for his first start this season despite being on a mark of 118. He was duly just touched off in the Persian War but bolted up on his next start. Now officially rated 130, he probably sets the standard on form but faces a couple of unexposed types who could have plenty more to offer. Grand Soir is an interesting Irish raider, whilst Thomas Mor cantered to success at Wincanton last time out. Pitched into Grade 2 company at the track for his first start, connections must hold Weveallbeencaught 6/4 in high regard. He was novicey through the early parts of the race but warmed to the task nicely and powered up the Cheltenham Hill. He finished a staying on third behind the smart Hermes Allen and this step up to three miles could be right up his street. He physically looks a giant of a horse and I think he is going to relish this step up in trip. If one of these horses are going to be an Albert Bartlett contender, I think it is him. Fingers crossed for a quick fire Twiston-Davies double.

3.35pm – Harry Fry mare can remain unbeaten

The final race of Cheltenham’s International meeting is an intriguing Mares’ Handicap Hurdle over an extended two and a half miles. I thought Nina The Terrier was an interesting runner stepping up in trip but I found it hard to ignore the claims of unbeaten Lady Adare 4/1. A perfect four from four she has won off the back of 234-day break so I wouldn’t let the fact this her seasonal reappearance but you off. That win is arguably her strongest piece of form having beat Get A Tonic by seven lengths in receipt of six pounds, including her jockeys claim. She ran out a commanding winner that day and Get A Tonic went on to frank the from and is now rated 137. Lady Adare runs here off a mark of 130 and Lorcan Murtagh is back on board to take a further three pounds off. Harry Fry has had a few winners of late and struck with smart mare Love Envoi this time last week. Lady Adare should like under foot conditions and can hopefully give us a winner in the lucky last.
