1:50 – Royal Rhyme (16/1) – Each Way
Perfuse is a worth favourite but far too short given every other horse is doubly figure odds at the time of writing. With the poor weather expected I want a horse that will handle the wet and Royal Rhyme more than fits the bill, an impressive wide margin winner on heavy ground at Newmarket unlikely suited to the rattling ground at Royal Ascot this will be much more to his liking and he’s a fair price even for a place.
2:25 – Vandeek (4/1) – Win
Well backed on debut he completely blew the start, despite this he did well beating a horse with good form in the book at the 3rd that day ran a great race here on Tuesday. He has all the fancy entries you’d expect and given how badly he broke on debut there’s no telling how good he could be. The 110 rated Unquestionable is clearly the horse to beat although he was beaten on soft ground on debut.
3:00 – Chesspiece (9/2) – Win
I think Espionage is opposable in this, not the best form as a 2yo and only beat a 90-rated horse in 2nd LTO, of course, Aidan can work wonders with a horse but I wouldn’t want to be taking short odds about him. Godolphin won this last year with New London, who went on to place in the St Leger and I can’t help but feel that is the reason Godolphin picked this lad up from the Crisfords. A good 3rd in the Queens Vase at Royal Ascot before winning a Listed race LTO.
3:35 – Blue Rose Cen (Evens) – Win (NAP)
Despite Nashwa’s demolition in the Falmouth there is no getting away from the fact the French have been a different class this season. Blue Rose Cen has wiped the floor with all in France including the British invaders and I expect her to do so again. Al Husn is probably overpriced given she beat Nashwa over this distance at Newcastle but I can’t get away from the machine that is Blue Rose Cen.
4:10 – Doddie’s Impact (25/1) – Each Way
This Brocklesby winner has been forgotten about in the grand scheme of 2-year-olds. He perhaps didn’t like the quick ground on his 2nd start and is hugely overpriced in my opinion if the ground comes up soft. He’s proven he likes the mud which can’t be said for the rest. None of these look obviously well handicapped so I’m happy to look away from those at the top of the market and back Doddie’s Impact to place at least.
4:45 – Isle Of Jura (7/2) – Win
Two Bloodless victories in the last 2 weeks, he turns up here on a hat trick 8lbs ahead of the handicapper. Assuming the quick-fire racing hasn’t caught up with him he has all the tools to go in again. I would be interested in Naval Academy at a double-figure price to outrun his odds, fair form in France, doesn’t look obviously well handicapped but the change of scenery might change things.
5:20 – Ornellaia (4/1) – Win
Lots of debutantes to negotiate here which is always tricky, but there is a filly with 1 run that caught my eye. 3rd on debut staying on over 6f, she has a list as long as your arm of future entries, the winner has since hacked up in a group 3 and even those in behind have run well in defeat since. With previous experience and usual progression from her first race she should be bang there and at a reasonable price.
5:55 – JM Jungle (6/1) – Each Way
He was becoming very frustrating with a string of placed efforts, but finally got his head in-front when winning well at Hamilton. Has shown form on all ground and I’m hoping he can kick on now he’s got that win. He’s an out and out sprinter which Quinn does so well with and saddled a winner on Tuesday in Lord Riddiford. I can’t see him not finishing out of the frame with his consistent nature.
