Europa League tips

We have reached the penultimate games of the Europa League group stages and there are some crucial matches involving British teams.

We’ve had a look at these four games on Thursday night and pulled together an Acca that we’ll be going for.

Bayer Leverkusen v Celtic – 17:45

Celtic travel to Germany to face Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena knowing they need a result to have any chance of qualifying for the Europa League knockout stages.

Leverkusen have strolled through Group G, securing three wins and a draw so far. If they beat Celtic, a side they hammered 4-0 in the reverse fixture in September, it would all but confirm them as group winners.

Celtic have already secured qualification for the Europa Conference League, but they will still want to secure a top-two finish in the group to continue their participation in the more illustrious Europa League. However, they face a side who are undefeated in all 14 UEL group stage games they have played at home. A record we think they will continue with ease.

Score Prediction: Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 Celtic (9/1 with Paddy Power)

Betting Tip: Bayer Leverkusen Win to Nil (13/8 with Paddy Power)

Rapid Vienna v West Ham United – 17:45

West Ham travel to the Allianz Stadion to face Rapid Vienna looking for the win that will confirm them as Group H winners.

The Hammers had won their opening three group games, including a 2-0 defeat of Vienna in September, before being held to a 2-2 draw by Genk last time out. However, they have still built up a healthy four-point advantage at the top of the group and look certain to make it to the Round of 16.

Only a win for Rapid Vienna can prevent them from being eliminated from the Europa League competition, but if they can win or take a point, they could move up to third and be in with a chance of qualifying for the Europa Conference League.

We’re backing a Hammer’s win, but Vienna won’t make it easy for them and we see both teams finding the net.

Score Prediction: Rapid Vienna 1-2 West Ham United (13/2 with Paddy Power)

Betting Tip: Both Teams to Score (6/10 with Paddy Power)

Leicester City v Legia Warsaw – 20:00

Leicester City welcome Legia Warsaw to the King Power Stadium for their penultimate game in a group that is separated top from bottom by just three points.

The Foxes currently sit in third place, so victory for them in this game is crucial if they want to qualify for the knockout stages, or even keep open their ambitions of topping the group. However, they are out of form and have not won a game in their last four competitive matches in all competitions. They have also gone 11 games without keeping a clean sheet, a run that includes a 1-0 defeat to Legia back in September.

The Polish side sit just one point behind Group C leaders, Napoli, but are enduring a miserable run of form themselves with nine defeats from their last 11 competitive games.

We’re backing Leicester to come out on top in this one and their talisman and top goal scorer, Jamie Vardy, could be the Foxes hero.

Score Prediction: Leicester City 2-0 Legia Warsaw (5/1 with Paddy Power)

Betting Tip: Jamie Vardy to Score 2 or More Goals (21/10 with Paddy Power)

Rangers v Sparta Prague – 20:00

There is a huge game at Ibrox in Group A, as Rangers go head-to-head with Sparta Prague in what will be the first game at the famous stadium since Steven Gerrard left the club.

Former Ibrox man, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, has taken over from Gerrard, but Rangers were beaten 3-1 by Hibernian in the semi-final of the cup at the weekend, so it has hardly been the best preparation going into such a crunch match.

With Lyon having already won the group, both sides know that whoever wins this game will likely join the French side in the next round. To add even more spice to the fixture, Sparta’s 1-0 win against Rangers in the reverse fixture in September means they hold the qualifying advantage due to head-to-head results. That means Rangers simply must win to have any chance of finishing the group in second place.

For Sparta the equation is simpler; a win of any type would see them go through, whilst a draw would also keep them above Rangers with a home fixture against Brøndby to come in their last game.

However, roared on by a passionate crowd, we’re backing Rangers to win this tussle and keep their Europa League dreams alive.

Score Prediction: Rangers 2-1 Sparta Prague (13/2 with Paddy Power)

Betting Tip: Over 2.5 Goals (10/11 with Paddy Power)
