Huddersfield vs Sheffield Wednesday Preview

After initially reportedly rejecting the Huddersfield job, the Cowley Brothers were announced as the new managers at the John Smiths Stadium during the International Break. It is quite the coup for the West Yorkshire club, and Danny and Nicky will be hoping to make an immediate impression in front of the home crowd. The pair inherit a mish-mash of a squad, which features players signed by numerous managers. The Terriers sit second bottom of the Championship, and they must start picking up points. Luckily, they also inherit an in-form striker with Karlan Grant looking impressive so far. The Cowleys make their sides tough to beat, and it’ll be interesting to see whether they go to basics for this game. They’ve only lost one of their games by more than a single goal margin, and Huddersfield aren’t a side who are getting swept aside each week. The new coach(es) must find a way of preventing defensive errors from creeping in.

Sheffield Wednesday have also been recruiting over the course of the International Break. The Owls were linked with the Cowley Brothers, but they opted for former Birmingham boss Garry Monk instead. Regardless of the reasons for his departure, Monk did a fantastic job in the Midlands, and helped galvanise the club. His side were on the fringes of the play-offs before suffering a points deduction. He’s had a mixed managerial career so far, but the players clearly enjoy playing under him. Wednesday did make a decent start to the campaign, but their form slowly began to tail off at the end of August. They’ve lost each of their last two games by the same scoreline (2-1), and will be desperate to get back to winning ways. With several players away on International duty, Monk will have had little time to work with his entire squad ahead of this.

Huddersfield vs Sheffield Wednesday Betting Tips

It’s hard to judge either of these two managers without having seen their sides play. The Cowleys will make Huddersfield harder to beat whilst Garry Monk sides are never easy to play against. That could make this a fairly even tie, and backing the draw seems the sensible outcome. It’s available at 23/10 with Bet Victor and is a decent starting point.

Sheffield Wednesday are yet to keep a clean sheet on the road so far, whilst Huddersfield have looked fairly sloppy at the back. There aren’t usually a huge amount of goals between these two sides, but a 1-1 score-line is a realistic possibility. It landed when they last met, albeit at Hillsborough, and it could be worth a small play once again.
