St Johnstone v Aberdeen Prediction
Aberdeen to win and under 2.5 goals – 7/2 with Paddy Power.
Aberdeen would have been deeply disappointed with their start to the season, it’s no disgrace losing to Rangers at home however the manner of the defeat would have disappointed Derek McInnes, his side did not manage a single shot on target. Outside the two powerhouses that is Celtic and Rangers, Aberdeen in recent years have taken up the mantle of being the best of the rest, they will be looking to put things right when they travel to St Johnstone on Saturday. Despite playing the whole second half with 10 men due to O’halloran being sent off, St Johnstone managed to salvage a 1-1 draw away to newly promoted Dundee Utd. The last 6 fixtures between these 2 sides have seen under 2.5 goals, with both teams yet to find their feet early on in the season expect this to be a tight contest, with Aberdeen possessing that little bit of quality to claim the 3 points. It’s worth noting St Johnstone have failed to beat Aberdeen in their last 7 SPL fixtures played at McDiarmid Park.
Livingston v Hibernian Prediction
Livingston draw no bet available – 8/11 with Bet365.
Hibernian could be dark horses this season, they appointed Jack Ross back in November and results drastically improved under the new manager. Jack Ross will certainly feel he has something to prove after his failure at Sunderland and he’s made a positive start to this season, picking up an impressive 2-1 home win against Kilmarnock. Livingston fell to a 1-0 away defeat at St Mirren which would have disappointed Gary Holt, they will look to bounce back at Almondvale Stadium, a place where they’ve made a fortress in recent seasons. In the 14 games played at home last season Livingston won 8, were held 4 times and only lost twice, they had the 3rd best home record in the league behind Rangers and Cetlic. The season before that Livingston once again were solid at home, boding the 4th best home record in the league, expect Livingston to replicate recent performances at home and bounce back here with a positive result.
Hamilton v Ross County Prediction
Both teams to score – 4/5 with Bet365.
Hamilton and Ross County were firmly in the mix for relegation last season before COVID-19 halted proceedings, both sides will be eager to make sure there is no repeat of this again. In their opening games of the SPL Hamilton were on the end of a drumming at Celtic Park; they were beaten 5-1 convincingly, whilst Ross County scraped past Motherwell 1-0 at home, a game in which they were dominated in. Hamilton will be looking to put their 5-1 thrashing behind them with a positive result here, Ross County will know the Hamilton’s defence will be shaky after leaking 5 goals, expect both sides to find the back of the net here in an entertaining game. 6 out of the last 7 meetings between both these sides have seen over 2.5 goals.
Motherwell v Dundee Utd Prediction
Motherwell to win and both teams to score – 15/4 with Bet365.
Motherwell were extremely impressive last season, they finished in 3rd place which is a remarkable achievement for a club of that stature. Steve Robinson will look to prove that their position last season wasn’t a fluke and push on this season. Motherwell endured a poor start to the season; they fell to a 1-0 away defeat at Ross County a game in which they missed some great chances, they will be looking to make amends when they welcome newly promoted Dundee Utd to Fir Park. Dundee Utd’s first game back in the top flight division ended in a 1-1 draw at home to St johnstone, a game in which they played against 10 men for a full 45 minutes. This would have been a wake up call for Dundee Utd and the levels needed to secure victories in the top flight league. Expect Motherwell to have too much for Dundee Utd in this one, they will be eager to make amends for their mishaps in front of goal against Ross County, expect Dundee Utd to feel the force of playing away against one of the top sides in the SPL.
