Watford vs Leicester Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

At the time of writing, Watford are ahead of Bournemouth by a single goal, keeping them just above the relegation zone. By contrast, Leicester are third, currently five points clear of Chelsea in fourth.

Watford FC Form

Watford’s form before the break took a nosedive with just one win from their last six league games. Before this, they went on a run of six Premier League matches undefeated.

Ismaila Sarr has improved dramatically since Nigel Pearson was handed the reigns. The Senegal international has scored consistently whenever he’s been in the team, most notably scoring a brace against Liverpool.

Their record against top teams across the season has been relatively mixed. They have won just three times against clubs above them in the table, however, all three wins came against top-six sides at home.

Watford FC Team News

Daryl Janmaat remains sidelined through injury for the Hornets. Aside from this, Nigel Pearson should have a virtually full complement of first-team players to choose from.

Leicester City FC Form

Leicester’s form tailed off somewhat at the end of 2019 and continued into the new year. They have still picked up points against Chelsea and Wolves but have often flattered to deceive against top sides.

Defeats to Burnley and Norwich could prove costly but Leicester have a healthy grip on a Champions League spot as things stand. The Foxes won 4-0 in their last fixture before lockdown, making easy work of a relegation-threatened Aston Villa.

Jamie Vardy seemed to lose his goalscoring touch that had served him so well in the first half of the season but could be back to his best after the restart. He scored in the reverse fixture in which Leicester won 2-0 back in December.

Leicester City FC Team News

James Justin is expected to deputize at right-back in light of Ricardo Pereira’s long-term injury.

Watford vs Leicester Head to Head

Leicester have historically won more than Watford with a record of 21 wins, 17 draws and 30 defeats. It’s been reasonably balanced in recent meetings with Leicester edging it but Watford still coming out on top in three of the last seven.

Watford vs Leicester Betting Odds

Watford vs Leicester Prediction

On paper Leicester are obviously the stronger side. The Foxes started the season brightly and could be set to get off to a strong restart, especially with plenty still to play for.

Watford have been much improved under Nigel Pearson, despite the malaise pre-lockdown. The lack of home support could be the deciding factor with Watford having failed to win any away games against side currently above them in the table.

Watford vs Leicester Stats

  • Watford have won just one of their last seven league fixtures.
  • Leicester have been inconsistent in 2020, only managing to put together a run of three games unbeaten once.
  • Jamie Vardy has scored just once in the league this calendar year.

Watford vs Leicester Betting Tips

Watford have seemingly relied on home support to get results against top sides and as such may struggle to get anything against Leicester.
