Championship leaders West Brom have the chance to extend their lead tonight when they host Stoke City. Second-placed Leeds were beaten again at the weekend so the Baggies can extend their lead to four points if they win here. It hasn’t been a good run for West Brom of late though, they’ve not won in their last five league games, drawing four and losing once, against Middlesbrough.

Stoke have had a terrible season so far and are in danger of being relegated. They sit just one point and one place above the drop zone but can move four points clear if they win this match.

The Potters are actually in better form than West Brom going into this game – they won 5-2 at Huddersfield last time out and also beat Sheffield Wednesday at home on Boxing Day. Their last match ended in a 0-0 draw with Millwall.

Despite the better form of Stoke, West Brom will know how important this match is and I’m predicting them to win this game by a tight margin. A win takes them eight clear of third-placed Fulham. Slaven Bilic’s men will be desperate to keep a gap in the automatic promotion places and he will hope that their winless run will come to an end tonight.

Charlie Austin, Hal Robson-Kanu and Matty Phillips have got seven goals apiece in the league this season already. That makes picking an anytime goalscorer tougher for tonight but I’m going to side with Danish striker Kenneth Zahore to score.

He’s found the net in West Brom’s last two matches, both against Charlton in the FA Cup and then the league.
