Championship Predictions & Betting Tips 2025/26

Championship predictions and betting tips

The Championship season will soon be upon us, and we’re taking a stab at predicting some of the end-of-season outcomes for one of the most competitive leagues in the world. With the newly relegated sides, we have a lot of Premier League and Championship experience, but the likes of Birmingham City and Wrexham are coming up from League One, splashing the cash and looking to spoil the party. Let’s jump in.

Who will win the Championship this Season?

My prediction for league winners isn’t as bold as you might expect. I’m backing Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town to win the division, and they are installed as favourites at a reasonable 4/1 with Bet365. McKenna was the mastermind behind the Tractor Boys’ promotion to the Premier League a few years ago, following their promotion from League One the season previous. They have retained a good amount of talent this summer, and have plenty of players who have been there and done that, while adding vital top-level experience in Ashley Young, who, despite being 40 now, is a good signing for the Championship. I think it will be a very close title race, and it’s hard to call between Ipswich and Southampton for me, but I’m backing McKenna and his league experience over the new, young Southampton boss, Will Still. Championship Promotion Predictions & 13/8 Betting Tip

You guessed it – I’m backing the Saints for this one. Southampton also still have a very good squad, and there will be a lot of excitement at St Mary’s with new boss Will Still at the helm at just 32-years-old. They also have proven Championship players throughout the squad, and with players like Matheus Fernandes and Tyler Dibling staying put, they have plenty of talent and potential there, too. They come in at 13/8 to be promoted with Bet365. BET ON SOUTHAMPTON

Championship Top Scorer Prediction 2025/26 – 16/1 Betting Tip

There are many talented strikers in the Championship this season. George Hirst of Ipswich is an excellent player and could have a talismanic season. He and Conor Chaplin will score goals. Southampton have an array of talent with Damion Downs arriving from Koln to add to the firepower of Adam Armstrong, Ross Stewart, Cameron Archer and Ben Brereton-Diaz. A stronger attack you’ll struggle to find in the division. However, none of them is my prediction for a Championship top goalscorer bet this season. I’m backing Birmingham City’s new signing Kyogo Furuhashi (16/1 with bet365). Kyogo has come in from the French Ligue One side Rennes, where he has had a largely unsuccessful spell, scoring 0 goals during his time in France. But it was his time in Glasgow that has encouraged Blues to bring him to St Andrews, and for good reason. The Japanese forward played 165 games for Celtic, netting a massive 85 goals for the Hoops, with 63 of them coming in the Scottish Premiership. His most prolific season for Celtic seen him bag 34 goals. He is an outsider for top scorer this season at 16/1 with Bet365, but I think he has a great chance if he can recapture his form from Celtic. BET ON FURUHASHI

Championship Relegation Prediction – Who will face the drop?

It’s never nice to see a big, historic club struggling, but Sheffield Wednesday are my favourites to finish bottom of the pile, and the bookies would agree – Bet365 have them priced at 4/11 to be relegated this season. The Owls are plagued with money worries and face potential points deductions and transfer embargoes. Not being able to strengthen their squad will prove costly this season, and I think they’ll drop into League One. Oxford United are one of the teams who looks likely to finish in that dreaded bottom three. Installed as second favourites to be relegated at 5/2, it’ll be a very difficult season for them. They have a great manager in Gary Rowett, and some talented players like Ciaran Brown and Cameron Brannagan, but I still think they’re primed to face the drop this season. Lastly, I think Portsmouth could be the third relegated club this season. They come in at 9/2 to be relegated with Bet365. Lack of investment so far this summer could be their downfall, with only two new additions so far in this window – Adrian Segecic from Sydney FC and attacking midfielder John Swift, who played for the club in his youth career. I don’t think those additions will be enough to see them improve on their 16th-place finish from last season, and with other teams improving and more quality coming up from League One, I expect Pompey to struggle, and they’re my final selection to go down this season. Reddit Championship Betting Tips 2025/26

The following information has been taken from Reddit threads where people are putting forward their own opinions about the new Championship season including promotion, relegation and which teams could underperform in the new campaign.

Promotion Contenders

  • Relegated Teams: Ipswich, Leicester, and Southampton are expected to be strong contenders to bounce back. “I think Ipswich should be alright coming back down, and realistically, I see all three relegated teams being in the top 6 at the end of the season.”
  • Ipswich Town: Many believe Ipswich will be a significant force. “I feel that Ipswich will be ‘that team’ next year.”
  • Leicester City: Despite some doubts, Leicester is still seen as a strong candidate. “Leicester and Southampton should probably stand a good chance at going back up.”
  • Southampton: Opinions are mixed, but they are often mentioned as a team with potential. “Southampton especially if they actually manage to sell Dibling for a stupid amount.”

Playoff Aspirants

  • Birmingham City: There is optimism about Birmingham’s chances. “After thinking about it for a second, I actually really like Birmingham’s chance for the double.”
  • Wrexham: While they might not be immediate promotion contenders, many expect them to be competitive. “I agree, and that is why, I hate to say it, I think both Birmingham and Wrexham will at least be top half of the table, pushing for playoffs at times.”
  • Coventry City: They are seen as a team that could make a push. “Coventry win the league next season, Ipswich second.”

Teams to Watch

  • Wrexham: While they have a lot of hype, there are realistic expectations about their performance. “I think mid table Champ is Wrexham’s ceiling tbf.”
  • Sunderland: They are expected to be in the mix. “Leicester, Southampton, Ipswich, Sheff Utd/Sunderland top 4/5.”
  • Norwich City: They are often mentioned as a team that could make a run. “Norwich, Watford, Middlesbrough and Sunderland are there or thereabouts regarding the playoff picture and promotion.”

Potential Underperformers

  • Sheffield United: While they are expected to do well, some are cautious. “Sheffield United, Southampton, Leicester City.”
  • West Bromwich Albion: Mixed opinions on their chances. “West Brom, Blackburn, Millwall, Middlesbrough.”
