After France went 1-0 down to Australia in their opening World Cup match, I feared the worst for the Aussies as the French would come back all guns blazing, and that’s exactly what happened. France came back to win the match 1-4 in what was a blistering performance by the competition holders. Two goals from Olivier Giroud either side of goals from Adrian Rabiot and Kylian Mbappe saw them take all three points after Craig Goodwin put Australia ahead after nine minutes. Denmark were held to a 0-0 draw against Tunisia, and despite beating France in the Nations League recently, I don’t think they’ll have enough to stop them here amidst their fine form.

Despite favouring a France victory in this one, I expect Denmark to at least get themselves on the scoresheet in a game I expect to be closer than France’s hammering of Australia. Denmark have a good recent history in major competitions, reaching the semi-final of Euro 2020 only to be defeated by England. I don’t think they’ll go as far in this competition, however, I do expect them to qualify for the last 16 and think they’ll put up a fight in this one. Rasmus Nissen Kristensen has already received a booking at this World Cup and is never shy of getting stuck in to a tackle. He is likely to be directly up against Kylian Mbappe who got his off to a flyer in his opening fixture and is in fine form. I expect him to make a number of tackles throughout this one and think this selection will land comfortably.
