Oldham vs Burton Prediction – Burton Win

The Brewers have an excellent cup pedigree and seem to thrive in these types of competitions. They did play in midweek, beating Sunderland in midweek and will be confident of beating League Two Oldham at Boundary Park. Dino Maamria’s side have flickered in recent weeks and did beat out-of-form Newport at the weekend, but they’ve won just one of their last four home fixtures and they’re facing one of League one’s best travellers. Burton have won four times on the road this season and Liam Boyce was back amongst the goals in midweek. Nigel Clough’s side beat Salford at the second attempt ten days ago, but they just appear to be finding form at the right time and Oldham’s defence could struggle to contain them on Saturday.

Shrewsbury vs Mansfield Prediction – Shrewsbury Win

Shrewbury were involved in a bonkers 3-4 home defeat to Bristol Rovers last weekend, but prior to that, Salop have been generally pretty reliable in Shropshire. They’ve kept a tight ship at the back and have kept five clean sheets in nine games at the Montgomery Waters. Mansfield lost to Swindon at the weekend, although they did create chances. John Dempster’s side have only beaten sides placed 16th or below in the League Two table so facing opposition from a higher tier is far from ideal. They’ve won just one of their last five matches and have failed to score in each of their last two. You just sense that this game will be a step too far for the Stags and they are unlikely to be involved in the third round this time around.

Kingstonian vs AFC Fylde Prediction – AFC Fylde win

Kingstonian were the beneficiary of Macclesfield’s off-the-field issues in the first round with the Silkmen fielding a largely youthful side due to unpaid wages. Although they are unbeaten in three games, they still sit in 14th and could struggle to match an AFC Fylde side who look to be improving under Jim Bentley. The former Morecambe gaffer oversaw a 1-0 win at the Racecourse Ground in midweek and that leaves them with back-to-back victories and two clean sheets in a row. It won’t be easy for the National League side, but they look to have too much quality for the hosts and should wear them down during the course of the 90 minutes.
