Ian Henderson to score anytime – 5/4 with Bet365.
Promotion favourites Salford City put in a stellar performance last time out when they defeated Grimsby 4-0 away from home. Salford can largely thank the prolific lower league striker Ian Henderson for this result, he bagged a hat trick which makes it 4 goals in 2 games for the former Rochdale forward. If Salford get promoted this season no doubt Ian Henderson’s goals will be a major factor, expect the 35 year old striker to continue his fine form and get on the scoresheet here.
Newport to win – 9/4 with Bet365.
The harsh reality of life in League Two is touching home at Bolton football club, they have started their league campaign with back to back defeats and have lost 4 straight games in all competitions. Newport will be going into this fixture with their tails up, they defeated former Premier League main stayers Watford 3-1 midweek in the Carabao Cup, they have also picked up 4/6 points from their opening 2 league games and expect them to make it 7/9 points after their trip to Bolton. After successive relegations, Bolton look dead in the water and the players are simply not at the standard required.
Port Vale to win and BTTS – 10/3 with Bet365.
Port Vale made a real statement last weekend, they travelled to promotion favourites Exeter and claimed all 3 points with a fantastic 2-0 win. That makes it back to back wins for Port Vale and they will be looking to make it 3 out of 3 when they welcome newly-promoted Harrogate to Vale Park. Harrogate must still be dreamland, their first-ever game back in the Football League started off with 4-0 away win and they followed that up with a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Walsall. That being said, expect their bubble to be burst here and Port Vale to give them a taste of what it’s really like in the Football League.
Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals – 11/8 with Bet365.
The history of this fixture screams goals, the last 5 times Grimsby have travelled to The Jonny Rocks stadium each time has seen both teams score and over 2.5 goals. Expect more of the same here, Cheltenham are coming off a fantastic 3-0 away win at Tranmere, whilst Grimsby were thrashed 4-0 at home by promotion favourites Salford City. Ian Holloway will be looking for a reaction from his players and will be hoping for a positive result.
Morecambe to win – 13/10 with Paddy Power.
Southend’s start to the season has truly been dreadful; they have suffered back to back league defeats and have lost 4 straight games in all competitions. Although being thrashed by Newcastle in midweek, Morecambe will still be feeling good about having the chance to mix it with Premier League footballers, that will only do the world of good for everyone involved with the football club. Focus returns back to the league for them and they will be feeling confident getting the 3 points against struggling Southend side, when these sides met last season Morecambe won both times and they will be looking to keep up that good head to head record.

It’s going to be an interesting year for League Two and in theory, could be somewhat of a changing of the guard.
There are some big teams in the division looking to climb back into League One, but new boys Salford City are being hotly tipped. The Class of 92 club are 7/1 favourites to win League One with Ladbrokes, alongside Bradford City, who arrive from League One.
Leyton Orient could also provide an outside chance at 20/1, although will be certainly worth a free bet in the Top 6 odds.
Mansfield are another team with a great chance following their fourth-place finish last year, with Forest Green and Newport also looking to improve on a Playoff finish in 2018/19.
The full list of odds for League Two winner can be found with Ladbrokes:
It’s no surprise to see BRADFORD CITY installed as favourites for an instant return to League One, and realistically, they have the squad to challenge throughout the course of the campaign. Second favourites Salford have the finance but may need a couple of seasons to adjust to life in the EFL. Mansfield have signed well, but have rookie manager John Dempster in charge, and that would deter me from backing the Stags.
The Bantams have signed James Vaughn and Clayton Donaldson, and as long as the veteran duo can remain fit, they should be able to frequently fire at this level. Eoin Doyle remains at the club for now, and a return to form for the occasionally-lazy frontman would also be a huge tick in the box. Shay McCartan is more than good enough for this level whilst a fit-again Sean Scannell will provide the majority of the ammunition.
At the back, Paudie O’Connor signs permanently, and they’ve finally got rid of the error-prone Nat Knight-Percival. Adam Henley provides plenty of experience and has played at a higher level whilst a couple of exciting unknown quantities arrived over the summer in the shape of Jackson Longridge and Tyler French.
Bradford should never have been relegated, and they have a decent manager in charge. Gary Bowyer has been able to build his squad over the summer, and they should be too good for their rivals this season.
League Two Winners – Bradford 7/1 with Betfred.
There are a number of sides who should be able to push for promotion this season, and a handful of clubs have really impressed with their transfer business over the summer months. Colchester have added well with Jevani Brown and Paris Cowan-Hall looking like good additions. The return of Dean Gerken will also help them keep clean sheets, and they’ve always got a decent crop of academy graduates coming through. They still look like they need an additional striker, but at 11/2 they could be worth a second look.
However, EXETER should find themselves at the right end of the table once again. The Grecians have come very close to promotion over the last couple of seasons, and this could be their year. Matt Taylor has had time to shape his squad, and his side should have enough about them to challenge.
Ryan Bowman, who was drafted in to replace Jayden Stockley was showing signs of quality towards the end of last season, and he should be an excellent foil to new recruit Nicky Ajose. The striker blows hot and cold, but if he’s in the mood, he could score a ton of goals at this level.
Gary Warren and Tom Parkes look like solid additions, whilst Nigel Atangana should add some steel in the centre of the park. Although he isn’t getting any younger, they still possess quality in the shape of Nicky Law, and Randell Williams have plenty of pace to trouble the opposition.
League Two Promotion – Exeter – 6/1 with Bet Victor.
As well as the three teams who are automatically promoted, four will also fight it out in the Playoffs, which requires a top seven finish.
Tranmere were promoted via this route last season and it will be hotly contested once more this term.
Salford and Bradford are shoe-ins according to the bookmakers, while we’d certainly look to the likes of Newport for better value at 3/1.
Macclesfield will be an interesting one to watch at 15/2, with Sol Campbell looking to push on from last season. Whether they have the backing to kick on further it’s unsure, but they could be a club worth a free bet or a small punt.
Paddy Power are offering some good odds on a Top 7 finish, with the full list of odds found below:
The aforementioned Colchester should be able to break into the top seven this season, and at 2/1 came awfully close to being the selection here. However, I’ve been wooed by a bigger price.
STEVENAGE were pretty progressive last season under Dino Maamria, and were in the playoff race until the final couple of games. The men from Hertfordshire tend to go under-the-radar, but I do think they have a chance at 6/1 of being in the shake-up.
They’ve added Chris Stokes, who has just enjoyed promotion with Bury, whilst the return of Dean Parrett is an interesting move. Charlie Carter is a bit of an unknown quantity but could prove savvy business whilst they’ve retained the likes of Kurtis Guthrie and Ben Kennedy.
They weren’t far away last season, and a few tweaks could see them capitalise on other teams’ inconsistencies.
League Two Top 7 Finish – Stevenage – 6/1 with William Hill.
As you’d probably expect, last season’s strugglers are favourites to face the drop this season with Grimsby priced a 3/1 favourite.
Morecambe and Macclesfield are also down there in the English League Two betting odds, while Crawley look set to struggle after finishing 19th last season.
The current favourites to be relegated from League Two include:
I noticed that the majority of League Two fans are tipping Macclesfield and Morecambe to suffer the drop this season, but I’m never going to write off Jim Bentley’s side. They always find a way to just about survive, and this year should be more of the same.
However, I do fear for CAMBRIDGE UNITED. Yes, fans are excited about the prospect of Wes Hoolahan signing, but the Irishman hasn’t put pen to paper yet despite being with the squad throughout the course of the summer.
Calderwood’s men do look a little light with just three strikers on their books at the time of writing. A lot of responsibility is likely to fall upon the shoulders of Jabo Ibehre, who doesn’t have a great injury record in recent years. Harvey Knibbs is an interesting recruit, whilst there are a number of talented players in the squad such as Reggie Lambe and Georgie Maris. However, they scored so few goals last season, and they’ve lost Jevani Brown, who was joint top-scorer last year.
It was a really poor season for Cambridge, and they haven’t really strengthened substantially so far. They still have time to do some stellar business, but the price on the men in Amber to drop is too tempting.
League Two Relegation – Cambridge – 7/1 with William Hill.
With Salford being one of the teams to beat this season it’ll be interesting to see how their strikers perform. Adam Rooney bagged 22 goals last season and will be heavily backed to finish top scorer in League Two this season.
Elsewhere, Bradford will be hoping Eoin Doyle can provide plenty of goals as they look to bounce back, while it’s expected the loan market will be utilised by a number of clubs. Loan stars largely made up the top scorers chart last season and we expect this to happen once more in 2019/20.
We’ve already mentioned him in this article, but Ryan Bowman could be an interesting prospect this season. The former Motherwell man took a while to find his feet in Devon, but he was prolific in the final few weeks. He scored five times in his last six games last season, and should be able to continue where he left off.
He’ll be ably supported by Nicky Ajose, who is also in the running for top goalscorer, but is prone to selfishness at time. Nicky Maynard is another interesting contender at Mansfield, and could have easily got a club at League One level, but Bowman gets the nod at a decent price.
League Two Top Goalscorer – Ryan Bowman – 33/1 with Betfred.
