After an impressive win against Leeds on Saturday, Nottingham Forest will aim to enhance their Championship promotion ambitions when hosting struggling Charlton. That game features in this Tuesday Accumulator alongside Sunderland’s attempt to win another home fixture in League One action at the expense of Rochdale. The final three selections involve top-eight teams in League Two with Bradford, Colchester and Exeter all welcoming lower table opposition.
A 2-0 home win against Leeds on Saturday confirmed Nottingham Forest as genuine automatic promotion contenders and they have now claimed thirteen points from their last five Championship games at the City Ground. Forest now host a Charlton team currently struggling on the road and moving closer to the relegation zone. The Addicks have failed to win an away match since the end of August and have avoided defeat in just three of those subsequent fixtures on their travels. A home win for in-form Forest is predicted.
After a poor display when losing 2-0 at Portsmouth during the previous weekend, Sunderland returned to winning ways on Saturday when beating promotion rivals Ipswich 1-0 at the Stadium Of Light. The Black Cats were rewarded for an improved second-half performance when striking the woodwork twice before scoring. A fourth win in five home games will now be the aim as they host an inconsistent Rochdale team which earned a decent draw at Doncaster in their latest match. Late goals have cost the Dale precious points in recent weeks but they could suffer a third loss in four League One away matches when visiting Wearside.
With Stuart McCall back at Valley Parade for another stint as manager, his Bradford players almost rewarded him with a win on Saturday only to be denied by a very late Grimsby equaliser. The Bantams are now unbeaten in seven league outings on home soil and welcome a Stevenage outfit marooned at the foot of the league table. Having lost four successive league fixtures with at least two goals conceded per game, the Boro appear set to suffer a fifth loss in six away matches.
Following a 2-1 defeat at Cambridge when two late goals were conceded, Colchester responded to the end of their lengthy unbeaten League Two sequence by beating Plymouth 3-0 at the weekend. It was a dominant home performance and they will now face a Grimsby team reacting positively to the influence of Ian Holloway as manager but still lacking consistency. A very late equaliser helped earn a point at Bradford on Saturday but just one win in six league outings is a concern. Expect the Mariners to offer a decent threat to Colchester but a home win is tipped for our accumulator prediction.
Although several goal-scoring opportunities were missed by the hosts, Exeter eventually beat League Two bottom team Stevenage 2-1 on home soil at the weekend and Grimsby remain the only visiting team to have claimed three league points at St James Park this season. Oldham will hope to upset the promotion-seeking Grecians but their morale will have been dented by conceding a very late winner at Crewe on Saturday. The Latics have also earned just one win from their last seven league matches on the road when beating struggling Morecambe, and another away defeat is likely.
