1:30 Cheltenham

My first selection for the lucky 15 comes in the Triumph Hurdle and it is NURBURGRING. Trainer Joseph O’Brien has already landed the Boodles this week and I think he has a strong chance of completing the juvenile double. The selection was a solid flat horse that had scope for further improvement and he’s done just that over hurdles. He was an impressive winner at Grade 3 level at Fairyhouse two starts back before running a cracker at Christmas to finish a never nearer 3rd behind Kali Conti. The greater stamina test of the new course at Cheltenham will suit and I like the fact he’s coming here fresh after skipping the DRF.

2:10 Cheltenham

We head to the County Hurdle for our next selection and it is PIED PIPER. He has a fine Cheltenham Festival record with a third in the 2022 Triumph Hurdle before finishing second in this race last year. He should have won that day and this year he’s effectively 1lb lower with Danny Gilligan’s 3lb claim taken into consideration. He’s well suited by a strongly run 2m and this six year-old is definitely open to further improvement.

2:50 Cheltenham

The Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle is next and the one I like is DANCING CITY. He was a decent bumper horse last season and ran well on his final bumper start finishing a good second behind the great Ballyburn. Like many of the Willie Mullins’ horses, he improved from his debut to win a maiden well over 2m4f. He then stepped up to Grade 1 level at the DRF and stayed on strongly to win that 2m6f contest. He’s on an upward curve and jockey Danny Mullins maintains the partnership. He’s won this race before on a second-string and I think he can do it again today.

3:30 Cheltenham

The feature of the week is our final selection, it’s a great renewal of the Gold Cup and you can make a case for many. The one I’ve landed on is L’HOMME PRESSE. He has a fantastic record in the main winning seven of the nine chase starts he has completed. After an injury, he shown he retains potential when seeing off a solid yardstick in Protektorat at Lingfield. He then went to the Ascot Chase and just couldn’t go the pace of Pic D’Orhy. He finished a solid second there and that should have put him spot on. He steps back up in distance here and goes back right-handed which is definitely key to him. He was a great winner of the 2022 Brown Advisory so this race should suit. The soft ground will also be ideal. If he can get into a nice jumping rhythm from the front here, he’ll go close.
