The BBC are hoping for a shock on Friday night as Carlisle make the long journey south to face Dulwich Hamlet. The Cumbrians have endured a season of struggle so far under Steven Pressley although they arrive here unbeaten in two games. The Scot has singled out teenage defender Jarrad Branthwaite for praise this week and has suggested that he would like to build the team around the youngster.

On the road, they’ve lost five of their first eight games and haven’t been victorious on their travels since September 14th. This is far from the ideal draw for the League Two strugglers.

Carlisle reached the second stage of the competition last season, seeing off divisional rivals Crewe at this stage. However, they came undone against an upwardly mobile Lincoln at the beginning of December.

Dulwich Hamlet have done brilliantly to reach this stage of the competition although they arrive here in worrying form. They’ve suffered an alarming drop off in form, resulting in a nine-game winless streak.

Their latest defeat was a 1-3 loss against Bath City, although FA Cup distractions may have played a role. It was a deserved victory for the visitors with Dulwich struggling at the back throughout the 90 minutes.

They haven’t been victorious in front of their own fans since the opening week of the campaign and despite August’s heroics, they find themselves hurtling towards the relegation zone in the National League South.

Although the fans have not had much to cheer so far this campaign, they will surely be up for this. It’s a long way to travel for Carlisle and they may find themselves up against it during the early stages of this contest.
