Man United vs Man City Betting Tips & Pundits Predictions for the Carabao Cup Semi-final

Carabao Cup betting tips

Manchester United and Manchester City to battle in the second Carabao Cup semi-final match tonight and as well as our own betting tips for the match, you can also see what the pundits are predictions from the major newspapers and tipping sites.

United go into this match 10 games unbeaten and OleGunnar Solskjaer’s side are level on points with Liverpool at the top of the Premier League.

Manchester City are not far behind and they’re also in good form, winning their last four and going 11 matches unbeaten. They beat Chelsea 3-1 at the weekend to go four points off top spot with a game in hand.

Man United have been away from home in all three Carabao Cup matches so far this season but they haven’t conceded a goal. Beating Luton, Brighton and Everton on their way to this semi-final.

For City, they have also had two away matches against Burnley (0-3) and Arsenal (1-4) and also beat Bournemouth in Round 2.

In the last three meetings between these two sides, United have won two of them and the other one was the 0-0 draw earlier this season, but something will have to give when they meet tonight as this is just a one-legged Carabao Cup semi-final.

Pep Guardiola has a great record in this competition and he’s not been eliminated from the competition for four years. He was just 10 weeks into his tenure then. That was also against Manchester United and his only other defeat since then was a 1-0 loss in the second leg of the semi-final last season, which City still won before going on to lift the trophy at Wembley.

Aguero did come on in the final moments, but Wednesday’s tie looks the perfect game for him to get some minutes under his belt.

Guardiola has managed him carefully since his latest injury setback, but the Argentina forward needs to prove his worth for the rest of the season and what better way to do so by firing his team into the EFL Cup final.

In 22 League Cup appearances, Aguero has scored 11 goals, and he is the one United must be most wary of on Wednesday when Raheem Sterling may be on the bench or watching from the stands.

Betting Tip: Sergio Aguero to score anytime – 20/11 with SBK.

The Evening Standard

The last League meeting at Old Trafford was a drab 0-0 draw, but given this is a one-legged cup tie, both teams should go for it – and there could be plenty of goals. United are slight favourites given City’s Covid-19 absentees, but their superb win at Chelsea should serve as a warning for Solskjaer.

Betting Tip: Manchester United to win 3-2 – 27/1 with SBK.

Sportinglife

The outright result in 90 minutes is best to avoid here because of the value available on United reaching Wembley, a play that is worth backing on price alone given the recent games between the two. While it may be the red side of Manchester celebrating on Wednesday evening, those in blue can still play their part and De Bruyne and Foden can make some form of impact.

Betting Tip: 1-1 draw after 90 minutes – 6/1 with bet365.

Michael Owen

“Both Manchester sides are in excellent form ahead of this semi-final clash. Manchester City have been steadily improving week-on-week and their progress continued at the weekend, playing some of their best stuff when defeating Chelsea 3-1.

Having climbed to 2nd position in the Premier League, Manchester United come into this undefeated in their last 7 matches.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is aiming for silverware, however, for that to happen his side must end City’s recent dominance in this competition.

Interestingly, City have failed to score in their last 4 visits to Old Trafford. United should line up with the same side that defeated Aston Villa at the weekend with Dean Henderson the only exception in goal. With both sides in such good form, it’s no doubt going to be a tight match. That said, Manchester United have tremendous momentum. I think they’ll have just enough against a City side who may be slightly understrength on the night.”

Betting Tip: Manchester United to win – 5/2 with bet365.
