Tranmere vs Southend Prediction & Betting Tips: Tranmere to Make it Successive League One Victories

Tranmere betting tips and predictions

Tranmere shocked Coventry with a late smash-and-grab victory on Sunday in front of the Sky Sports cameras. The men from the Wirral are back in action on Friday night and will be hoping to make it back-to-back victories. They face a troubled Southend side who are likely to have a new management team in place by the time this fixture gets underway.

Tranmere vs Southend Preview – 18/10/2019 League One

Mickey Mellon was delighted with the way his side fought for three points at St.Andrews on Sunday lunchtime. He was full of praise for his team’s battling performance and told reporters that every player had a key role in their victory. It was Corey Blackett-Taylor’s fine strike which seperated the sides and it was the perfect response to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Shrewsbury.

Outside of that loss, Tranmere have been very tough to beat at home. They have a 2-2-2 record at Prenton Park and have held free-scoring Peterborough to a draw here. They still perhaps lack a little firepower which didn’t help them when trying to break down a stubborn Shrewsbury defence two weeks ago.

Southend’s hunt for a manager rumbles on although it looks like Henrik Larsson will be taking the job (at the time of writing). Sol Campbell has also been linked with the role although plenty could change over the coming days. The Shrimpers badly need someone to come in and organise their defence. They’ve lost each of their last three League One games, conceding eight goals in the process, and have been defeated in ten of their first twelve matches. Only one of the six previous teams to have started this poorly have survived relegation to League Two.

Tranmere Unlikely to Fill Their Boots

On the road, Southend have conceded three at Priestfield and four at Shrewsbury, Wycombe and Lincoln. They just have the habit of collapsing under pressure and the opposition has been able to capitalise. However, I don’t know if Tranmere have the capabilities to fill their boots in this one. They’ve scored just 16 times this season although five of those came against a youthful Bolton side.

Mickey Mellon will be happy with a solid 2-0 or 2-1 victory in this game and his side may settle for that. Tranmere and Under 4.5 Goals is 11/10 with Paddy Power and that looks a decent option in this contest. Their latest two victories have been by 1-0 and 2-1 score-lines and they look very well organised at the back. It should be a straightforward win for the hosts although they are unlikely to get carried away.

Home Banks-er

Ollie Banks has been superb since joining the club and the midfielder has already netted three times this campaign. He isn’t afraid to shoot from distance and he’s reaped the benefits in recent months. Interestingly, all three of his goals this season have arrived at Prenton Park whilst 50% of his goals last season were also scored in front of the home fans.

Banks is always a decent price to score for the hosts and he’s 4/1 with Bet365 to find the net anytime in this contest.
