France to qualify

This is arguably the hardest game to call in the tournament so far, with both teams performing incredibly well in their first four games. However, I’m backing France to progress to the semi-final and continue their run as they look to defend their World Cup following their triumph in 2018. The French have looked unstoppable going forward with Kylian Mbappe the current top goalscorer in the competition with five goals in four matches and Olivier Giroud, who became France’s all-time top scorer in the last match,  also getting amongst the goals with three. England have also been blistering going forward, however, I think France will win due to England’s frailties at the back. Credit where credit is due, since the Iran game, England haven’t conceded and have performed well defensively. However,  I don’t think the Three Lions will have enough to stop Mbappe and co and I think we’ll be seeing France in the semi-final.

 

Both teams to score

England and France are two of the tournaments top scoring teams so far. England have scored 12 goals in their four games and France have scored nine, so I expect there will be goals in this one and I think they’ll come for both teams. As well as scoring 12, England have conceded only two (both in their opening day 6-2 hammering of Iran). However with both teams attacking style of football and blistering pace going forward, there will be plenty of chances in this one, a match I expect to be an explosive encounter. France have conceded one goal in each of their four matches and I think they’ll concede another one or two in this one, as will England.

 

Jules Kounde to be booked

Jules Kounde has picked up one yellow card so far at the tournament and I’m backing him to get his second of this World Cup campaign in this one against England. The Barcelona defender has been playing on the right side of defence for the French in this campaign, starting two of four games and coming off the bench in one. He will likely be a direct opponent of Phil Foden, who started on the left last time out for England and draws and average of 0.89 fouls per game. Kounde will be put under pressure by the England frontline and, should he start his third game at the tournament, he is excellent value to receive his second yellow card and really bumps the odds on this bet builder.
