Portugal to qualify

Morocco have been the surprise package of this World Cup, overcoming Spain last time out and progressing from their group with an impressive campaign in which they defeated Belgium and Canada and were held to a 0-0 draw by Croatia. However, I think they will fall at this hurdle as they come up against a Portugal side who really found their feet last time out. Gonçalo Ramos exploded onto the scene of the Portuguese national team last time out against Switzerland. The Benfica striker surprisingly replaced Cristiano Ronaldo, who dropped to the bench, for their last 16 tie and what a decision that was from Fernando Santos. Ramos bagged himself a hattrick in what is his first starting appearance at this World Cup, and also put on a very impressive all-round display. He has scored nine goals in 11 matches for Benfica this seasons and will be full of confidence after his three goals against Switzerland. I think there’s a good chance his confidence will allow him to flourish once more and grab a goal in this one too.

 

Sofyan Amrabat to be booked

Sofyan Amrabat is an aggressive player who is not shy of a meaty tackle or two. The Fiorentina midfielder has picked up one booking in this competition so far, having played every game for Morocco, and I think there’s a good chance he will pick up another in this one against an equality physical Portugal midfield. He has been booked seven times in 14 Serie A appearances this season, 10 starting and three off the bench, and I think this one will be a good midfield battle against William Carvalho, Ruben Neves or both, depending on the formation Portugal go with. He will also have to keep tabs on attacking midfielders like Bernardo Silva, which is never an easy task. I think he is excellent value for a card in this one.
