Ten Hag discusses Mount’s Old Trafford nightmare

Really making Mount their top target over the summer and eventually agreeing on a £55million deal with Chelsea, there was much excitement around Old Trafford as the England international signed a five-year contract.

However, dealing with an injury blow back in September, the 24-year-old has struggled to find any kind of stability in the red half of Manchester.

Still yet to open his Premier League account at Old Trafford, Mount has also not made a single top-flight start since back on October 7th.

Speaking ahead of United’s return to Premier League action this weekend, the former Ajax boss has been discussing why Mount has not been featuring of late.

“He started the season and then got injured.”

“It interrupts the integration process. It was really a setback. Now he has to fight to get his place back.”

“There are other players who are doing well.”

‘Marcus is not happy’

Shown a straight red card during Manchester United’s 4-3 Champions League defeat away at Copenhagen in midweek, Marcus Rashford has certainly found mounting pressure on his shoulders.

While the England international might have enjoyed a record-breaking flurry last season, the 26-year-old has come crashing back down to earth this time around.

With many fans around Old Trafford starting to believe that Rashford needs a stint on the sidelines, United’s homegrown superstar has failed to find the net in his last 11 appearances across all competitions.

Ahead of a showdown against Luton this weekend, ten Hag has been vocal about Rashford’s recent struggles.

“Marcus is not happy. We are not happy. He has high expectations from himself.”

“At the moment he is not in his best form but I know he will be back.”

Still fighting a real uphill battle in their bid to clinch another top-four finish this season, United face what is a must-win showdown against Luton on Saturday afternoon.
