Both of these sides have enjoyed fruitful starts to the campaign and it should be a fascinating match-up at the San Memes Stadium. See our Athletic Bilbao vs Real Madrid predictions for the match below.
Both of these two teams have made decent starts to the new La Liga season. Admittedly, Bilbao have only played two fixtures after their game against Rayo Vallecano was called off due to the unsuitability of their opponents stadium. It means that the Basque club are playing a third consecutive game at home and it doesn’t get much tougher than hosting the Champions League winners at San Meme. They do tend to remain competitive in these games and Los Blancos have typically struggled to break them down in the past. There typically hasn’t been much between these sides when they’ve previously met with both fixtures ending all-square last season and the visitors sneaking a 2-1 win at this venue two years ago. The last four fixtures have been either drawn or settled by a one goal margin and I expect this encounter to follow that pattern. Julen Lopetegui’s side are clearly benefiting from being allowed to play with increased freedom following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and they have won all three of their fixtures easily albeit against Girona, Leganes and Getafe. I think they will continue that streak but it won’t be easy for them. Real Madrid to Win by a 1 Goal Margin looks a sensible bet in this one and it’s available at 11/4 with Betfair. It is the first of our Athletic Bilbao vs Real Madrid Predictions.

The other aspect of Bilbao’s performances against Real Madrid is that they tend to find the back of the net at some point during the 90 minutes. Each of their two matches so far this season have ended with both teams scoring and I expect this one to follow suit. Real Madrid have only kept them off the score-sheet in one of their last five meetings and although none of their players have scored more than a single goal yet, they are looking dangerous going forward under the new regime. Eduardo Berizzo has urged his side to play on the front foot and that is sometimes at the expense of keeping clean sheets. Both Teams to Score has landed in four of the last five meetings between these sides and I think it will land again here. It is priced at 11/18 with Sport Pesa and is the second of our Athletic Bilbao vs Real Madrid Predictions.
Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale have both started the season in flying form and the pair will be keen to add to their tallies. The latter has three goals to his name already this campaign and is clearly benefiting from not playing second fiddle. He’s flourishing under Lopetegui and looks a good bet to score at any point during the 90 minutes. He is a slightly bigger price than his French team-mate and Bale looks the one to back. Gareth Bale – Anytime Goalscorer is priced at 3/4 with William Hill and is the third of our Athletic Bilbao vs Real Madrid predictions.

Real Madrid will be popular this weekend and will be included in many punters accumulator bets on Saturday. They are priced at 4/7 with Coral and many will be tempted to back them blind. They should have enough to win this game but it’s always a tough fixture for them. Bilbao will make it difficult for them and it’s 13/4 for the game to end all-square. The hosts don’t win many against this opposition but they available at 9/2 to cause the upset at San Memes.
The bookies are expecting goals in this game and it’s 8/15 for Over 2.5 Goals in this encounter whereas an attractive looking 6/4 is available for Under 2.5 Goals in this encounter. This would have landed in each of the two meetings last season. For those who are feeling a little more ambitious, it’s 6/5 for Over 3.5 Goals.
Aritz Adruiz is back for the hosts and he will always cause problems for the opposition. He is still a terrific poacher despite his advancing years and can be backed at 7/1 to net the opener here. Inaki Williams should also return and he can be backed at 9/1.
There are no injury concerns for Lopetegui who has a full strength squad to select from. Asensio, Bale and Benzema are likely to make up the attacking trio with the latter priced at 4/1 to net the first.
