Newcastle vs West Ham Match Preview

This one of those matches where no outcome would surprise you given that neither side has shown even a semblance of consistency until very recently. Sure, Newcastle are enjoying a great spell at the moment with three wins in a row but it’s certainly not inconceivable that they get turned over here. West Ham, for all their shortcomings, are far from huge outsiders – with 11/5 the longest price you’ll find on them.

Given that only goal difference separates the pair going in this fixture, it’s difficult to argue that a draw would come as a shock. One thing I think we can be sure of, though, is that it won’t be a goal-fest. For that reason, 8/11 on under 2,5 goals being registered may reel a few punters in for this weekend’s Premier League bets.

Newcastle United FC Form, Team News and Injuries

The doom and gloom over St James’ Park looks to have lifted for the time being and Newcastle supporters can enjoy their football again. Monday night’s win over Burnley was hard fought and well deserved. They’ll expect another three points back in the North East this weekend.

Paul Dummett, Jamaal Lascelles, and Yoshinori Muto are all doubts and there are other team news worries with a few long term absentees including Karl Darlow.

West Ham United Form, Team News and Injuries

Manuel Pellegrini’s side were thumped 4-0 by Manchester City in last weekend’s Premier League fixture and they’ll want to bounce back from that. They’ve only won one of their last six matches and that run will be a concern for the manager. Man City ran out easy winners at the London STadium last weekend and although this won’t be nearly as tough, The Hammers won’t want to go into December off the back of another defeat.

Marko Arnautovic and Jack Wilshere are injury doubts for West Ham and that is not the team news their fans would want to hear. They are also without winger Andriy Yarmolenko who is a long term absentee, along with Manuel Lanzini.

Newcastle vs West Ham Betting Tips

Until recently, the dissatisfaction felt by Newcastle fans for off-field issues was being mirrored due to their woes on the pitch – but in the blink of an eye that’s all changed. It’s funny how a few results can alter the shape of the season and with it, the attitude of supporters at St James’ Park. Relegation looked nailed on for the Geordies at the beginning of October but maximum points from their last three games has put Newcastle within touching distance of the top half. Rafael Benitez seems to have squeezed a little extra from his players and it wasn’t that long ago pundits were saying how unlucky the Magpies were to lose away at Manchester United. Momentum is certainly with them ahead of West Ham’s visit then, which is in itself a good reason a perfectly valid reasons for backing the home side once again. Newcastle are a 6/4 poke with William Hill which, frankly, I find staggering. Fill your boots!

A few eyebrows were raised when Newcastle commissioned the acquisition of Salomon Rondon in exchange for proven goalscorer Dwight Gayle, but it appears to be paying dividends. The South American is the kind of burly frontman you can build a team around and it’s commonly accepted that Rafa Benitez is in favour of having a focal point in attack. The deal, then, appears to be paying dividends and it’s probably no coincidence that Rondon is Newcastle’s top scorer in the league. Okay, he’s not the most prolific attacker in the division but you’d like to think that if he gets a sniff, he’ll take it. Betway price him up at 9/4 to score anytime on Saturday and we definitely like the look of that!

Betting Odds

West Ham to win – 11/5 with BetVictor.

Newcastle vs West Ham Correct Score Prediction

Working on the basis that you’d expect both teams involved will expect to take something from this match, I see it being a cagey affair. That could translate into a high-scoring game riddled with defensive mistakes and offensive approaches, but I’m not sure I can see it.

I think it’ll be really tight but in current form, I’ll have to give Newcastle the nod. You can get 15/2 at Bet365 on the hosts winning 1-0n which would make an almost unprecedented streak of four straight Premier League wins for the Magpies.
