Pep Guardiola admits he would like Bayern Munich to knock Liverpool out the Champions League
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has admitted he wants his former club Bayern Munich to knock Liverpool out of the Champions League and join Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the competition.
Schalke were ruthlessly swept aside by City at the Etihad as an emphatic seven-goal haul saw them cruise into the last eight courtesy of a 10-2 aggregate victory.
As for Jurgen Klopp’s side, Liverpool will travel to Munich on Wednesday night with their spot in the quarter-finals still hanging in the balance.
Last year’s Champions League finalists played out a 0-0 draw at Anfield when the two sides met in the first leg last month.

Guardiola cheering on Bayern Munich
Before swapping Germany for England back in 2016, Guardiola had enjoyed another incredibly successful spell in Bavaria.
During his three years with Munich, Guardiola helped Bayern win three consecutive Bundesliga league titles and also guided them to the UEFA Super Cup in 2013.
Watching his side pick up a very eye-catching 7-0 win over Schalke on Tuesday and booking their spot in the quarter-finals of this year’s Champions League, Guardiola discussed Liverpool’s trip to the Allianz this evening.
Admitting that the defending Bundesliga champions still hold a special place in his heart, the 48-year-old made it no secret who he wants to see them come away with the victory on Wednesday.
“I’m sorry for the English people but I want Bayern to go through,”
“I am part of this club. I love Munich. I love Bayern. I have a lot of friends there.”
City’s dominant win means there will be at least three English teams in the quarter-finals of a Champions League campaign for the first time since 2011. Liverpool can make that four on Wednesday if they can come past the Bundesliga heavyweights.
Next up for the defending Premier League champions, Guardiola will be looking for his side to carry on their push for a historic quadruple-winning season when they travel to Swansea this weekend.
The Sky Blues will face off against the Championship outfit for a spot in the semi-finals of this year’s FA Cup.
As for their Champions League ambitions, Guardiola and City will find out who their quarter-finals opponents are on Friday, March 15th, the draw is expected to take place at 11am GMT.
