Bookings tips

Huddersfield vs Birmingham – Ivan Sunjic to be carded 11/5 Bet365

Huddersfield host Birmingham in a game between two sides that occupy the final two relegation spots in the Championship table. This is likely to be a scrappy affair that both sides will see as a must win game. Huddersfield are the 6th most fouled side in the division, whilst Birmingham have committed the 5th most fouls, and so I have opted for Birmingham midfielder Ivan Sunjic to be carded. The Croatian midfielder has been booked 10 times in 34 appearances this season, making 58 tackles and committing 54 fouls. In their last 10 games, Huddersfield have faced 20 central midfielders, 18 of those 20 committed a foul, with 5 being booked. In the last 6 games where Matt Donohue has officiated a game involving one of these sides, he has handed out 28 yellow cards, and it only took him 29 minutes to book Sunjic when Birmingham faced Swansea back in January.

Aston Villa vs Chelsea – Conor Gallagher to be carded 15/8 Bet365

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has committed the most fouls of any player in the Premier League this season (68 in 31 appearances), being the only player committing over 2 fouls per game on average. In the absence of Enzo Fernandez who has recently had surgery, Gallagher will likely slot next to Moises Caicedo as a defensive midfielder. In 9 appearances in this position this season, Gallagher has been booked 3 times, half of his total yellow cards received for the season, whilst committing 22 fouls across these 9 appearances. Referee Craig Pawson sent off Conor Gallagher in the first half for two bookable offences in the only Chelsea match that he has officiated this season, which was when they hosted Brighton back in December.

Hull vs Ipswich – Sam Morsy to be carded 15/8 Bet365

Hull remain 3 points off the play-off places with two games remaining, and they face an Ipswich side chasing automatic promotion. Hull attackers Carvalho and Philogene are two of the most fouled players in the division this season, and in 9 of Carvalho’s 18 appearances since joining the club, an opposition central midfielder has been carded. Ipswich captain Sam Morsy is joint second for bookings received in the Championship this season, picking up 13 yellow cards in 39 appearances, making 109 tackles and committing 70 fouls across this period. Referee Andrew Kitchen has officiated 3 games involving these sides this season, handing out 11 yellow cards. Morsy was lucky to escape a booking in the reverse fixture after committing 4 fouls, and I don’t expect him to be as lucky on Saturday evening.

Cadiz vs Mallorca – Ruben Alcaraz to be carded 11/5 Bet365

In what is a massive game between two sides near the bottom of La Liga, Cadiz will see this  as a must win, or they will likely face relegation after four seasons in the top flight. In a relegation scrap, there is no better player in the division to select for a booking than Cadiz central midfielder Ruben Alcaraz, a player that has picked up 14 yellow cards in his 30 league appearances this season, making 78 tackles and committing 78 fouls. Referee Isidro Diaz de Mera Escuderos has handed out 71 yellow cards and 4 red cards in 17 La Liga games this season, including booking Alcaraz in 1 of the 2 Cadiz home games that he has officiated. Alcaraz was booked at home to Mallorca last season, and the hope is that he replicates that again this weekend.
