Reasons for Our Aston Villa vs Wigan Predictions

Our first bet prediction for today is for Aston Villa to clinch three points against Wigan. Last season’s play-off final losers started with three points against a dogged and determined Hull side and Steve Bruce will be confident that his side can double up and make it a perfect six from six. They had to come from behind in order to collect that victory and back in Birmingham, they should have enough about them to beat the Championship newcomers. They were only defeated three times here last season and won 14 of their 25 matches at Villa Park. Wigan opened up with a victory at the DW but they took advantage of a generous Sheffield Wednesday defence and they won’t find as much space in this game. Villa lost just one at home in 2018 and I don’t expect them to slip up here. Wigan looked a little susceptible at the back in their opening fixture and they may just lose out here. The first of our Aston Villa vs Wigan predictions is Aston Villa win and it can be backed at 9/10 with Betfred. You can use their free £30 bet on any of this weekend’s Championship fixtures.

Villa came under pressure from Hull during the opening stages of the game at the KCOM and conceded a sloppy goal. Tommy Elphick and James Chester are a decent pairing but they aren’t as watertight as last season and they could easily concede here. Wigan looked lively going forward but struggled at the back conceded twice. It could be another entertaining 90 minutes for the Latics and should be a good watch for the neutral. Both Teams to Score? Yes is the second of our Aston Villa vs Wigan predictions and it’s available at 17/20 with Ladbrokes.

Amazingly, Villa scored all three goals through defenders on Monday but Jonathon Kodjia looked lively going forward and he could find space amongst the Wigan back-line. Kodjia will be full of running as always and unless Villa recruit a striker before the deadline, he is likely to start up front. He hit 22 goals in 46 games during the 2016-17 season but endured an injury-hit campaign last year. Kodjia to score anytime is the third of our Aston Villa vs Wigan predictions and is available at 6/4 with Bet365. You can use their £100 of free bet credits on this game.

Aston Villa vs Wigan Recommended Bets and Odds

Villa will be heavily favoured in this fixture and they are available at 9/10 with Betfred. The draw will be very popular as well and can be backed at 12/5. Wigan were tipped to hold their own in the second tier this season and they are available at 16/5. Betfair are offering 11/10 on Over 2.5 Goals and anyone who thinks it will be a low-scoring game can back the 8/11 on Under 2.5 Goals.

Aston Villa vs Wigan Preview

See information on the team news, key players and match stats below.

Aston Villa Team News vs Wigan

Villa still have a few injury worries ahead of this game and Scott Hogan is absent alongside Callum O’Hare and Harry McKirdy. New signing Axel Tuanzebe will be hoping to play some part whilst Villa also have two new goalkeepers who will each be hoping to wear the number one jersey.

Wigan Team News vs Aston Villa

Dan Burn remains an injury concern for the visitors. The big defender missed the last game with a foot injury and is unlikely to feature here. Kal Naismith and James Vaughn will be hoping to play some part from the bench.

Aston Villa Key Player vs Wigan

James Chester remains a class act at the back and he will be hoping to earn his side’s first clean sheet of the season. The central defender enjoyed a tremendous season alongside John Terry last year and continues to attract interest from Premier League clubs.

Wigan Key Player vs Aston Villa

After his performance on the opening day of the season, Michael Jacobs must surely qualify as a key player in this clash. He teamed up with Nick Powell throughout the game and should be lively in the final third once again. He’s also not afraid to shoot from distance.
