Brentford vs Birmingham Preview

The Bees kick off their Championship season on home soil against Birmingham this weekend looking to make the best possible start to their campaign. Pre-season was going well until a 3-1 home defeat to Premier League Bournemouth last time out. They have beaten Norwich and AFC Wimbledon this summer and picked up a creditable 0-0 draw against Dynamo Kiev, and also drawn with Wycombe Wanderers 2-2.

Goals have not been a problem for Brentford and they’ve acquired defender Pontus Jansson from Leeds to strengthen their backline. Neal Maupay is still at the club and that will be a huge boost if they can keep hold of him until the window shuts.

Birmingham were soundly beaten 4-0 by Brighton in their last pre-season game but had picked up wins against Swindon Town (6-1) and Bristol Rovers (2-1) prior to that. They finished 17th last season and have lost top scorer Che Evans, a relegation battle might be on the cards for the Blues this campaign.
