Burton vs Ipswich Preview

The Brewers almost snatched a play-off position late last season, but they just ran out of steam in the closing stages. Nigel Clough’s young side were very enjoyable to watch throughout the campaign, but their wonderful cup run may just have impacted on their finishing position. They have lost a couple of key performers with Jamie Allen leaving for Coventry, but they have added a number of players including the excellent Kieran O’Hara between the sticks. Ryan Edwards is an interesting addition from north of the border whilst John Joe O’Toole will have to prove that he can cut it at this slightly higher level. At the time of writing, they’ve kept hold of Liam Boyce, who will be responsible for plundering their goals alongside the classy Lukas Akins. Clough is an astute operator who will know his side’s limitations, but they will be more than a match for anyone at home, and they should be able to give Ipswich a decent game in this season opener. They don’t always get off to the quickest start however, winning just two of their last ten opening day fixtures.

2018-19 was a season to forget for Ipswich, who went down to League One with a whimper. At least the arrival of Paul Lambert in November did provide some positivity, and the Scot remains at the helm for this opening contest. He’s been quick to play down their hopes of automatic promotion, but despite not making too many additions in the transfer window, they possess a squad which is more than capable of challenging. When Paul Hurst was appointed at the start of last season, he opted to raid the third tier for some of its best talent, and that is a long-term strategy which may just start to bear fruit this season. James Norwood is a terrific addition to the squad, and the man who helped Tranmere to back-to-back promotions is unlikely to find the step up too tricky. Luke Garbutt is an average full-back, but they do still possess players such as Gwion Edwards, Jon Nolan and Kayden Jackson, who should all have their say at this level. Lambert has got sides out of this division before, and the Tractor Boys look in decent enough shape for a tilt at a top two finish.

Burton vs Ipswich Betting Tips

Burton were very entertaining to watch during the latter half of the season, and the Brewers should continue that theme here. 61% of their games last season ended with both teams finding the back of the net, and it would have paid out in seven of their last eight games. March 2nd was the last time that they failed to score in a league game, and as the hosts here, they will be expected to find the back of the net. This isn’t the easiest fixture for Ipswich, and they may find Burton too energetic at times. They should have enough about them to find the net, and it wouldn’t be surprise to see James Norwood notch on his competitive debut.

Both Teams to Score? Yes looks an excellent option, and back the former Forest Green man to make an instant impression for the Tractor Boys.
