Roma vs Porto predictions, betting tips and preview for the Champions League fixture on Tuesday 12th February 2019. Read our preview and betting tips for this match as Porto look to get the vital away goals in Rome.
The Portuguese side sit top of the Primeira Liga but they have only managed draws in their last two fixtures so Benfica and Braga are closing in. Roma got back to winning ways at the weekend when they beat Chievo after going three matches without a win.
At this stage of the competition 12 months ago, Porto were drawn against Liverpool. They were hammered 5-0 in Portugal before a 0-0 draw at Anfield. They will want to avoid any repeat of this here and will fancy their chances of a progression against a Roma side who are having a very indifferent season. They were recently thrashed 7-1 in the Coppa Italia against Fiorentina and held to draws by Atalanta and AC Milan. They got a much needed win against Chievo at the weekend.
Porto have only managed draws in their last two league matches but were fantastic in the Champions League group phase, winning five and drawing one of their six ties. Roma won three and lost three in their group but did have two losses against Real Madrid. For the first of our Roma vs Porto predictions in this fixture, we’re backing the draw.
When we did our Chievo vs Roma predictions for Friday’s match, we outlined Stephan El Shaarawy as an anytime goalscorer tip because he’d scored more Serie A goals than Edin Dzeko this season. He found the net to give us a winning betting tip and there is no reason why the Italian shouldn’t be our anytime scorer selection here too. That goal took his tally to three goals in his previous five matches.
The aforementioned Edin Dzeko already has five UCL goals to his name this season so he is favourite in the latest odds at top price 17/10 with Betway to score. In the Porto ranks, Marego will miss the match so Brazilian Tiquino will be deployed to score the goals and he’s got nine league goals this season. However, we’re sticking with El Shaarawy for our anytime goalscorer tip on this match.
The selection for the match prediction on this UCL fixture was a draw, and we can back that up with a correct score bet. Porto needed a 92nd equaliser to snatch a point at the weekend and prior to that they drew 0-0. It is unlike them to to be involved in low scoring matches but this Champions League last 16 tie could be cagey. A 1-1 draw would be a great result for Porto in this clash and and that is exactly what we think they’ll get. The hosts are favourites but their last home game did finish 1-1 so that’s the third of our Roma vs Porto predictions this week.
