Matt Chapman – ITV Racing & Paddy Power

Matt Chapman is the most prolific of the active tipping pundits, publishing his selections for every ITV Racing day throughout both the Flat and National Hunt seasons via Paddy Power News. He covers all races on the card with win and each-way selections and detailed reasoning on each pick.

Known for his exuberant personality and the catchphrase “Yeeehaa”, Chapman has been a fixture of ITV Racing since 2017 and remains one of the most recognisable voices in British racing. He started at At The Races before making the move to ITV, and publishes his tips via Paddy Power News on every ITV Racing day – typically between 9am and 11am on race morning.

Tipping style: Value-focused, regularly backs bigger-priced selections and each-way plays rather than short-priced favourites. Strong on going conditions and trainer angles.

Best for: Punters who want a full card of selections with detailed reasoning every ITV Racing weekend.

Where he publishes: Paddy Power News (news.paddypower.com) and ITV Racing Opening Show.

Ruby Walsh – ITV Racing & Paddy Power

Ruby Walsh is widely regarded as the greatest National Hunt jockey of his generation – 59 Cheltenham Festival winners, two Grand Nationals, two Gold Cups. Since retiring in 2019 he has become one of the most respected pundits in the sport, working as a Paddy Power racing ambassador and ITV Racing pundit.

He publishes his selections via Paddy Power News for every ITV Racing day throughout the National Hunt season, with detailed race-by-race analysis and a designated best bet per card. His knowledge of Irish form and the Mullins and Elliott yards gives his tips a distinctive edge that British-based pundits cannot match.

Tipping style: Patient and value-driven. Particularly strong on Irish-trained horses and Cheltenham Festival championship races. Brings a jockey’s understanding of race shape and jumping ability to his analysis.

Best for: National Hunt punters looking for well-reasoned selections with genuine Irish form knowledge. Essential reading at Cheltenham and Aintree.

Where he publishes: Paddy Power News (news.paddypower.com) and ITV Racing.

Tom Segal (Pricewise) – Racing Post

Tom Segal is the most influential horse racing tipster in Britain. Writing as Pricewise in the Racing Post since 2001, he has spent over two decades finding horses the bookmakers have underestimated. William Hill’s chief executive once told shareholders that profits “could have been a lot better, if it wasn’t for Pricewise” – the clearest possible endorsement of his impact on the market.

A self-described “visuals guy”, Segal backs athletic, progressive horses where he believes the market price is wrong – typically at double-figure prices. His ante-post selections for Cheltenham, the Grand National, Royal Ascot and the Classics are the most widely followed of any tipster in the sport and consistently move markets the moment they are published.

Tipping style: Value-first. Backs big prices, looks for lightly raced progressive horses and is not afraid to take on heavily supported market leaders. His weekly column is behind the Racing Post+ paywall but his ante-post Festival selections are widely reported.

Best for: Punters who want ante-post value plays at big prices on the major festivals and Classics. His confirmed selections are tracked here.

Where he publishes: Racing Post (racingpost.com – subscription required for full column).

Kevin Blake – At The Races & Betfair

Kevin Blake is an Irish-based horse racing and bloodstock analyst who brings a genuinely insider perspective to his tips. He writes the weekly Kevin Blake Take column for At The Races, contributes to the Betfair Betting Podcast, appears on ITV Racing – and works as Race Planner for trainer Joseph O’Brien, giving him direct operational involvement in how horses are placed and prepared.

His depth of knowledge on Irish racing, Irish form and the strategies of the Mullins and Elliott yards makes him the go-to analyst for assessing Irish raiders at Cheltenham, Aintree and the other major British festivals.

Tipping style: Analytical and methodical. Writes at length about why a horse has a chance rather than brief instinct-based selections. Particularly strong on non-handicap Grade 1 races where Irish-trained horses feature prominently.

Best for: Punters who want detailed Irish form analysis and well-reasoned selections at the major National Hunt festivals.

Where he publishes: At The Races (attheraces.com) and Betfair Betting Podcast.

Mick Fitzgerald – ITV Racing

Mick Fitzgerald is a former Gold Cup-winning jockey and one of ITV Racing’s most familiar pundits. He rode over 1,250 career winners including the 1996 Grand National on Rough Quest and a remarkable Gold Cup day double in 1999, winning both the Cheltenham Gold Cup on See More Business and the Queen Mother Champion Chase on Call Equiname on the same afternoon.

He no longer publishes regular tips columns. He occasionally shares his views during ITV Racing’s Opening Show and at the major festivals, but for regular daily selections see the active pundits above.

Which Horse Racing Pundit Should I Follow?

Different pundits suit different types of punters and different betting approaches.

For a full card of selections every ITV Racing weekend – Matt Chapman via Paddy Power News. He covers every race on the card with reasoning and publishes more frequently than any other named pundit.

For National Hunt and Cheltenham/Aintree specialist knowledge – Ruby Walsh. His 59 Cheltenham Festival winners as a jockey and his deep knowledge of Irish form make him the most authoritative voice on the championship races.

For ante-post value at big prices – Tom Segal (Pricewise). His selections on the major festivals and Classics move markets immediately. Getting on as soon as he publishes is essential. Best combined with Best Odds Guaranteed.

For Irish form analysis and Cheltenham/Aintree festival depth – Kevin Blake. His operational role with Joseph O’Brien and his weekly At The Races column give him a level of analytical detail that goes beyond conventional punditry.

How to Bet on Horse Racing Pundit Tips

Use Best Odds Guaranteed. Taking a price early on a pundit selection with BOG protection means if the SP ends up bigger you collect at SP; if the price shortens after publication, you keep the price you locked in. Essential for Pricewise tips in particular, where market moves happen within minutes of publication. See our Best Odds Guaranteed guide.

Use Non-Runner No Bet for ante-post selections. For festival ante-post tips from Segal, Walsh and Blake, always bet at a bookmaker offering NRNB. Your stake is returned in cash if the horse does not run. See our Non-Runner No Bet guide.

Check each-way terms. Many pundit selections are advised each-way. The number of places paid and the fraction of win odds varies between bookmakers. See our each-way betting guide.

Act quickly on Pricewise. Segal’s selections move markets within minutes of publication. The price he names in his column may be gone by the time you read it. Use the current price and compare across bookmakers before placing.
