Bradford vs Oldham Preview

It’s fair to say that it hasn’t gone according to plan for Bradford this season. Gary Bowyer’s men were pre-season favourites and well-fancied to return to League One at the first time of asking. Of course, we are only two games in, and there is no reason to panic just yet, however, they need to start picking up points sooner rather than later. The former Blackpool boss has been trying to find a way of shoehorning Clayton Donaldson, James Vaughan and Eoin Doyle into the same XI, and so far, that experiment hasn’t worked. Their latest loss, a 4-0 defeat at home to Preston in the EFL Cup exposed their defensive weaknesses yet again, with boss branding it as “unacceptable”. However, they were dominant in their opening home game, and missed several chances to put Cambridge to bed. Registering XGs of 1.7 and 1.2 in their first two games suggests that they are creating opportunities, but they are just not putting them away.

Oldham are yet to register a point this campaign, and Laurent Banide must find a way of getting his side climbing the table. The Latics lost 1-0 to Forest Green on the opening day of the season before surrendering a one goal lead at home to Crewe last weekend. David Wheater was sorely missed against the Railwaymen, and his leadership could be key to their survival. It isn’t known whether he will return for this trip to Valley Parade. He didn’t play in midweek, as Oldham once again surrendered a lead to Championship side Blackburn. It was a more encouraging performance from Banide’s men, although they were facing a team who were trying out some of their fringe players. Somewhat concerningly, Oldham barely created anything in their last away trip, although they were better last week at Boundary Park.

Bradford vs Oldham Betting Tips

It’s been a forgettable start for Bradford, and although fans are extremely disappointed with their side, they must start winning at some point. They created more than enough chances against Cambridge to win the match, and Oldham’s defence isn’t as water-tight as the Us. The Bantams might just need a slice of luck somewhere along the way, but they should be able to take three points from this fixture. They are odds-on to do so, but there is nothing about Oldham’s opening two performances which suggests they will be leaving West Yorkshire with all three points.

James Vaughan is off the mark for the campaign, and if he can stay fit, he could be a major asset this season. The former Everton man looks their biggest threat, and at 6/4, he looks the likeliest to find the back of the net, and bring some joy to the home fans.
