Algeria vs Nigeria Preview

Riyad Mahrez is the headline name in the Algerian line-up and has played well so far. He looked dangerous against Ivory Coast in the Quarter Finals and his substitution will mean he’s fresh for Nigeria. Adam Ounas remains the competition’s top scorer, averaging a goal every 40 minutes and will be a dangerous option off the bench.

The Desert Warriors have only conceded once at this year’s tournament having kept shut outs against Kenya, Senegal, Tanzania and Guinea. A tough game against Ivory Coast went all the way to penalties but it could have been a very different story had Baghdad Bounedjah converted his spot-kick early in the 2^nd half to give Algeria a 2-0 lead.

Nigeria’s progression to the Semi-Finals has been anything but straightforward. Narrow victories over Burundi and Guinea preceded the shock of the tournament as they lost to surprise package Madagascar. Odion Ighalo and Alex Iwobi helped see off holders, Cameroon, in an exciting 3-2 win in the first knock out round. Yet more drama was to come in the Quarter Finals with an 89^th minute winner from William Paul Troost-Ekong saving the Super Eagles from extra time.

Algeria go into the tie as marginal favourites. Their tight defence has provided a strong base to build from, but Ivory Coast exposed some weaknesses and could have scored more than just once.
