Saturday Accumulator Tip
Brighton to beat Leeds
Brentford to beat Everton
Hull to beat Coventry
Portsmouth to beat Port Vale
Aberdeen to beat Livingston
Brighton to beat Leeds – 10/11
Leeds United travel down to the far reaches of the south coast in a bid to maintain their unbeaten start to the season; likewise with the hosts with both sides having picked up seven points from a possible nine this season.
Graham Potter’s men have upstaged European outfits West Ham and Manchester United so far this season, and were incredibly unlucky not to beat Newcastle were it not for the brilliance of Nick Pope in the Magpies’ net.
Leeds have of course impressed fans and pundits alike themselves, with the 3-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday massively endearing Jesse Marsch to supporters.
But Brighton just seem to have that real clinical edge this year; similar to how West Ham and Leicester have challenged the ‘Big Six’ in the past – and I’d expect them to continue that profile against Leeds at 10/11 odds.
Brentford to beat Everton – 21/20
Everton’s need for a striker continues; they don’t even seem to be close to strong links towards a talisman, never mind a signing.
With Dele Alli – one of their makeshift attackers for the time being – joining Besiktas, there are only really Demarai Gray and Dwight McNeil able to supplement Salomon Rondon in the area, and the Venezuelan’s goals have dried up.
Meanwhile, Brentford have been firing so far this season – four goals against Manchester United, two goals against Fulham and two on the opening day at Leicester have showed that they have attacking prowess. And against a sorry Everton defence that will be bombarded due to their lack of threat up front, they should take the spoils at evens.
Hull to beat Coventry – 2/1
Admittedly, I was shocked when I saw Hull were 2/1 odds to beat Coventry at home. The Tigers, bar last weekend’s 5-2 loss to West Brom, remain in the play-off spots after superb results against the league’s best sides.
Coventry, meanwhile, have played just two matches over issues with their stadium, with Wasps’ failure to re-do the Ricoh Arena pitch following the Commonwealth games resulting in postponements.
Their rustiness and lack of fixtures could play well into Hull’s hands, with the Tigers ready to pounce on their shortcomings.
Portsmouth to beat Port Vale – 6/4
Pompey finally look like they are ready to mount an automatic promotion charge in League One for the first time in years. With the joint-most goals in the league so far an an unbeaten record to boot, they travel to Port Vale who themselves have only won two of their five games.
Danny Cowley finally has the Blues playing good football, and their trip to Burslem on Saturday could prove fruitful with win that would give them 14 points from a possible 18 – 6/4 aren’t bad odds at all.
Aberdeen to beat Livingston – 4/5
The Dons are a funny side. Losing to Celtic on the opening day at Parkhead was almost a given, before beating St Mirren got them back into the groove. Yet, a loss against Motherwell at home brought them back to square one before a superb Leighton Clarkson free-kick brought Jim Goodwin’s men all three points at St Johnstone.
They take on Livingston at Pittodrie, who have had a similar start themselves but lost 1-0 last time out at Well. Aberdeen have a spring in their step now, and I’d expect them to beat David Martindale’s side at 11/14.
