Ivory Coast vs Algeria Preview

Ivory Coast will be taking on Algeria in a rematch of the 2015 AFCON Quarter Final. On that occasion the Elephants ran out 3-1 victors, but Algeria will be quietly confident of progression this time around. The Desert Warriors have yet to concede at this year’s tournament having kept shut outs against Kenya, Senegal, Tanzania and Guinea.

Riyad Mahrez is undoubtedly the star name in the Algerian line up and has been in fine form thus far. The Algerians also posses current AFCON top goal scorer, Adam Ounas, who bagged a brace in a dead rubber against Tanzania and added to his tally in the last 16 encounter with Guinea. The 22-year-old Napoli winger may not start but is certainly one to watch.

Meanwhile, Ivory Coast’s progression through the tournament has been far from plain sailing. The West African side have failed to impress in a narrow win over South Africa and lost 1-0 at the hands of Morocco in the group stage. A second half winner from Crystal Palace talisman, Wilfried Zaha, was enough to see them past Mali. Despite an inconsistent showing thus far, Ivory Coast could pose a threat, particularly as Zaha looks to finds his stride.

Ivory Coast vs Algeria Betting Tips

There’s no doubt Ivory Coast’s strengths lie in attack but given Algeria’s defensive record it would be a brave man who bets against the North Africans. Serge Aurier is expected to return from injury, providing more attacking threat down the right flank.

This is shaping up to be close contest, but Algeria may have just enough to get through. A combination of their solid defence and exciting attacking options makes them a good bet to knock-out the Elephants.

Ivory Coast found Mali tough to break down in the previous round and it could be the same story on Thursday. We fancy the Algerians to keep their 100% clean sheet record intact and back them to win to nil at 11/5.
