Chris Sutton’s Latest Premier League Predictions
Brighton vs Manchester United — Sutton’s prediction: 2-1
Sutton notes a Brighton win would secure seventh and European football, with sixth even possible if Bournemouth lose. He acknowledges it hasn’t always been smooth under Fabian Hurzeler this season, but the Seagulls have finished strongly. Manchester United have a personal incentive too — Bruno Fernandes needs one more assist to break the Premier League single-season assists record. Sutton expects Fernandes to get his record, but believes Brighton will take the points regardless. He tips Danny Welbeck to score the winner against his former club, predicting a 2-1 home victory at the Amex.
Burnley vs Wolves — Sutton’s prediction: 1-0
Sutton points out a grim statistic: since Wolves beat Liverpool on 3 March, these two clubs have not managed a single win between them across 16 games. He calls it a horrible season for Wolves, while Burnley’s spirited-but-losing effort against Arsenal on Monday summed up their campaign. Wolves have not won an away league game all season, and he doesn’t see that changing. He admits the sensible call is a draw, but with a predictions title to chase he wants to take a risk — so he backs Burnley to edge it 1-0 at Turf Moor.
Crystal Palace vs Arsenal — Sutton’s prediction: 0-1
Sutton expects heavy rotation from both sides given their upcoming European finals — Arsenal face PSG next weekend, Palace face Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday. With the title already won, he sees no reason for Arteta not to rest players, making this a Palace reserves versus Arsenal reserves affair, with some Gunners players possibly still nursing title-celebration hangovers. He references Alan Shearer’s “creosoting the fence” line from Blackburn’s 1995 title win. Despite the rotation, Sutton still backs an Arsenal win — and by their favourite scoreline, the same 1-0 that delivered their past three victories.
Fulham vs Newcastle — Sutton’s prediction: 1-1
Sutton calls this a tough one to call, with both sides level on points in mid-table. He notes Newcastle have beaten Fulham twice already this season, but both wins came through last-gasp goals in the 90th minute or later. Newcastle arrive off a big win over West Ham and have finished strongly, which matters for Eddie Howe’s future. However, Sutton rates Marco Silva’s solid campaign with Fulham and expects the hosts to get something at Craven Cottage — while admitting he has been awful at predicting Fulham’s results all season. He goes for a draw.
Liverpool vs Brentford — Sutton’s prediction: 2-2
Sutton leads on Mohamed Salah’s “ridiculous attack” on Arne Slot’s playing style, saying Salah knows the implications of his comments about Liverpool needing to be a “heavy metal attacking team” and is effectively trying to bury Slot. He says that whether or not Salah is right, it leaves a sour taste while Slot is still in a job. Sutton rates Brentford, who beat Liverpool in October’s reverse fixture and remain in European contention under Keith Andrews. He wouldn’t be surprised by a Brentford win, but thinks Liverpool will get the point they need for fifth.
Manchester City vs Aston Villa — Sutton’s prediction: 4-2
Sutton reflects that next season will feel odd without Pep Guardiola, whose departure broke at the start of the week. He praises Guardiola for changing how coaches and fans think about football. He expects Pep to go out on a high, helped by an Aston Villa side likely still celebrating their brilliant Europa League win. Sutton notes City have plenty to celebrate themselves — while they missed out on the league title, they have still won two cups this season, which he says is not to be sniffed at. He predicts a 4-2 City win at the Etihad.
Nottingham Forest vs Bournemouth — Sutton’s prediction: 1-2
Sutton says there will be no last-day drama for Nottingham Forest, who have done well to stay up given they have used four different managers this season. He frames the game around Andoni Iraola’s final match in charge of Bournemouth and expects him to sign off with a win. Sutton points to the Cherries’ strong midweek display against Manchester City as evidence of their quality, and expects them to be on the front foot again at the City Ground. He predicts a 1-2 away win for Bournemouth, sending Iraola out on a high.
Sunderland vs Chelsea — Sutton’s prediction: 1-1
Sutton notes Sunderland will finish above Chelsea if they win, and says that would hardly count as a surprise. The Black Cats arrive off a win at Everton, and another victory here would secure a top-10 finish and possibly European football. Chelsea are chasing the same prize, having fallen away from the Champions League places after a run of six straight league defeats. Sutton acknowledges Chelsea’s good midweek win over Tottenham, but expects a close contest at the Stadium of Light. He predicts a 1-1 draw between two sides still with European football to play for.
Tottenham vs Everton — Sutton’s prediction: 1-2
Sutton asks whether former West Ham manager David Moyes can help save his old club by beating Tottenham with Everton. On form the answer is probably no — the Toffees have not won any of their past six. But he expects a nervy afternoon for Spurs and their fans, who were flat against Chelsea. Based on that, he initially thinks Everton will get at least a point, then talks himself into all three. He notes only Burnley have a worse home record than Spurs this season, while Everton were strong on the road before their recent slump. He predicts 1-2 Everton.
West Ham vs Leeds — Sutton’s prediction: 1-1
Sutton, having tipped Spurs to lose, asks whether West Ham can get the win they need to have any chance of survival — and says he can’t see it. He cites damning comments from Hammers midfielder Mateus Fernandes, who said the side lacked fight in the defeat by Newcastle, and notes West Ham have lost form at the worst possible time. By contrast, he rates Leeds as well organised and confident, and is a big admirer of manager Daniel Farke. He expects drama and chances at both ends, but predicts a 1-1 draw — which would relegate West Ham.

Who gives the BBC Premier League Predictions?
Chris Sutton has taken over from Lawro as the main BBC pundit predicting the Premier League matches each weekend. He gives his correct score guesses for each game and on the BBC Sport website, you will usually see him challenging a guest to see who can get the most predictions correct. They give points for a correct score and points for a correct match result. If you still want them, you can see Lawro’s predictions at Paddy Power for the Premier League games.
Who is Chris Sutton?
Chris Sutton is a former Premier League striker who played for a number of clubs as a professional, including Norwich, Blackburn, Chelsea, Celtic, Aston Villa and England. He scored over 150 career goals and formed a formidable partnership up front with Alan Shearer at Blackburn Rovers in the mid-1990s.
Sutton is now a football pundit for the BBC after previously working as a BT Sport pundit.
Which League does Chris Sutton do Predictions on?
Each week, you will see Premier League predictions from Chris Sutton, and when there is FA Cup action, he will also offer his thoughts on those matches. However, the Premier League is where you will find most of Sutton’s predictions for the BBC Sport website and this includes the midweek matches, Boxing Day and the last day of the season where there is usually a lot still to play for.
What bets does Chris Sutton predict?
Chris Sutton makes correct score predictions for each round of Premier League matches but you are not restricted to just betting on the score if you wish. You could also use his scores to bet on both teams to score, win-draw-win or over/under 2.5 goals bets.
For example, if the Sutton prediction is a 2-2 draw between Arsenal and Liverpool, you could bet on 2-2, both teams to score, the match to be a draw or over 2.5 goals. All of these bets would still be winners if the prediction is correct.
