Chris Sutton’s predictions are on the BBC website every week when Premier League or FA Cup football is on, and he has taken over from Lawro in predicting the correct score in all the upcoming matches for the top flight.
He has big boots to fill for the BBC Sport predictions after Mark Lawrenson left at the end of the 2021/22 Premier League season, but he has done a pretty good job so far, correctly predicting some of the biggest games in the Premier League this season.
See Chris Sutton’s Premier League score predictions for this weekend’s matches below, as well as a few ways you could bet on his correct scores if you wanted to.

Chris Sutton’s Latest Premier League Predictions
Brentford vs Fulham
Sutton was disappointed with Fulham’s display at Anfield last week, feeling they had a real chance to take something from Liverpool but failed to deliver. He notes Fulham did the double over Brentford last season, so there is history here for Marco Silva’s side to draw upon. However, Sutton senses Fulham’s season may be running out of steam. Brentford, meanwhile, are still harbouring hopes of a Champions League place despite a frustrating run of four successive draws. Sutton correctly predicted their last result and expects another tight affair, going for the points to be shared.
Prediction: Brentford 1-1 Fulham
Leeds United vs Wolves
Sutton believes Leeds could and should have beaten Manchester United by a far greater margin than 2-1, pointing to missed chances from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and a superb goalline tackle that denied Ao Tanaka. That kind of performance gives him real confidence in Daniel Farke’s side, who he feels have a lovely balance running through the team. Wolves were competitive against West Ham until the goals went in, but Sutton cannot look past another Leeds victory. A win would take them to 39 points, which he believes should be enough to secure their Premier League survival.
Prediction: Leeds United 2-1 Wolves
Newcastle United vs Bournemouth
Sutton believes Eddie Howe looks a tired man, with Newcastle’s habit of dropping points from winning positions — 25 dropped this season, more than any other club — taking a visible toll. Bournemouth arrive in good form and already knowing their manager Andoni Iraola will be leaving at the end of the campaign, which Sutton describes as a hammer blow. Despite Howe’s remarkable record of never beating Bournemouth in nine attempts as Newcastle boss, Sutton is backing him to finally change that statistic. He describes it as the law of averages eventually coming good for the under-pressure Howe.
Prediction: Newcastle United 2-1 Bournemouth
Tottenham Hotspur vs Brighton
Sutton is baffled by Tottenham’s season. A squad loaded with talent, yet somehow still searching for a first Premier League win of 2026 after 14 league games. New manager Roberto de Zerbi admitted after the Sunderland defeat that his players need a father figure rather than a coach, which Sutton finds a difficult concept to fully understand. Brighton have won five of their last six games and arrive in excellent form. Sutton cannot see Spurs ending their winless run here and believes things could go badly wrong for De Zerbi against his former club.
Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 0-1 Brighton
Chelsea vs Manchester United
Sutton describes this as something of a “flat-off” given the woeful recent form of both clubs. United’s display against Leeds reminded him of the worst of the Ruben Amorim era, while Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior’s decision to drop Enzo Fernandez against City continues to baffle him. Rosenior desperately needs Champions League football and has serious defensive vulnerabilities to address. However, if United are as flat as they were at Elland Road, Sutton can see Chelsea getting back on track. He goes for the home side, though only just, suggesting this will be an unconvincing victory.
Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Manchester United
Aston Villa vs Sunderland
Sutton was present at the Stadium of Light earlier in the season when Sunderland performed impressively despite finishing with ten men in a 1-1 draw. Watching them again against Tottenham, he was struck by how organised and defensively disciplined Regis Le Bris’s side are, rarely giving anything away. He expects another tight contest here. Villa, though, are at home and need the win badly to strengthen their grip on a Champions League qualification place. With that motivation driving them, Sutton backs the hosts to edge an attritional affair by the narrowest of margins.
Prediction: Aston Villa 1-0 Sunderland
Everton vs Liverpool
Sutton’s instinct was actually to go for an Everton win in the Merseyside derby, which tells you everything about Liverpool’s current predicament. He felt they did show some promising moments against PSG in midweek, taking the game to them at points, but ultimately the result was not there. With this season now focused purely on finishing in the top five, Slot faces a tricky afternoon at Goodison. Everton are a good side and a win would allow them to close the gap on their rivals. Sutton ultimately sits on the fence, settling on a share of the spoils.
Prediction: Everton 1-1 Liverpool
Nottingham Forest vs Burnley
Sutton has no hesitation in calling this the most important game of Nottingham Forest’s season. Three points are absolutely essential before a gruelling run of fixtures that offers precious little respite. Burnley are already relegated, which Sutton acknowledges could actually work against Forest — a team with nothing to lose sometimes plays with a dangerous freedom. The tension at the City Ground will be palpable. Sutton believes Forest simply have to find a way to win, regardless of how the performance looks. He goes with the home side, but expects a very nervy afternoon on the banks of the Trent.
Prediction: Nottingham Forest 1-0 Burnley
Manchester City vs Arsenal
Sutton covered Arsenal’s draw with Sporting for BBC 5 Live and came away impressed defensively, but deeply concerned about their inability to create and score goals. He acknowledges Arsenal do not need to win this game — a draw keeps them firmly in the title race — and expects Arteta to set up with balance rather than going all out for victory. City have the individual quality to produce moments of magic and Sutton tips either Jeremy Doku or Antoine Semenyo to provide the decisive contribution. Despite not being fully convinced by City’s recent form, he edges towards the home side.
Prediction: Manchester City 1-0 Arsenal
Crystal Palace vs West Ham
Sutton notes West Ham will know exactly what they need from this game by the time Monday night arrives, having watched all their relegation rivals play over the weekend. Crystal Palace have quietly found some form, taking seven points from their last three games, and Sutton is wary of underestimating them. West Ham were nervous against Wolves until they took the lead, which is a concern. Despite the pressure the Hammers will be under, Sutton is unusually confident in this particular prediction — more so than most — and he is backing the points to be shared.
Prediction: Crystal Palace 1-1 West Ham

Who gives the BBC Premier League Predictions?
Chris Sutton has taken over from Lawro as the main BBC pundit predicting the Premier League matches each weekend. He gives his correct score guesses for each game and on the BBC Sport website, you will usually see him challenging a guest to see who can get the most predictions correct. They give points for a correct score and points for a correct match result. If you still want them, you can see Lawro’s predictions at Paddy Power for the Premier League games.
Who is Chris Sutton?
Chris Sutton is a former Premier League striker who played for a number of clubs as a professional, including Norwich, Blackburn, Chelsea, Celtic, Aston Villa and England. He scored over 150 career goals and formed a formidable partnership up front with Alan Shearer at Blackburn Rovers in the mid-1990s.
Sutton is now a football pundit for the BBC after previously working as a BT Sport pundit.
Which League does Chris Sutton do Predictions on?
Each week, you will see Premier League predictions from Chris Sutton, and when there is FA Cup action, he will also offer his thoughts on those matches. However, the Premier League is where you will find most of Sutton’s predictions for the BBC Sport website and this includes the midweek matches, Boxing Day and the last day of the season where there is usually a lot still to play for.
What bets does Chris Sutton predict?
Chris Sutton makes correct score predictions for each round of Premier League matches but you are not restricted to just betting on the score if you wish. You could also use his scores to bet on both teams to score, win-draw-win or over/under 2.5 goals bets.
For example, if the Sutton prediction is a 2-2 draw between Arsenal and Liverpool, you could bet on 2-2, both teams to score, the match to be a draw or over 2.5 goals. All of these bets would still be winners if the prediction is correct.
