Leyton Orient vs Cheltenham Preview

This should have been a triumphant return to the EFL for Leyton Orient, but their summer has been marred by tragedy. The sad passing of Justin Edinburgh has understandably led to a sombre few months in East London, and credit must go to the club for recognising his legacy by appointing Danny Webb and Ross Embleton to oversee first-team affairs this season. Orient were champions of the National League, and although they weren’t foot perfect, they were tough to beat, and picked up the results when it mattered. They’ve lost top-scorer Macauley Bonne this summer whilst Josh Koroma has also left for the Championship. Connor Wilkinson and Lee Angol will be expected to hit the ground running immediately this season, and there will be plenty of expectation on the duo. Josh Wright has had a poor couple of seasons since leaving Gillingham, but he could easily have an impact at this level.

Cheltenham were tipped to struggle last season, but they finished a modest 16th, and they will be looking to kick on this season. Michael Duff was already held in high esteem before taking the role, but his reputation has been bolstered by some solid performances during the second half of the season. The Robins remained unbeaten in 17 of their 23 home matches last season, and they will once again be relying on their form at the Johnny Rocks Stadium to help keep them clear of relegation trouble. Rohan Ince is a really intriguing addition, and he’s already showing signs of getting back to the midfield enforcer he was once was. Charlie Raglan should be a good addition, whilst Tahvon Campell could thrive in this environment. Reuben Reid is already out for the couple of months, but he should be effective once he returns.

Leyton Orient vs Cheltenham Betting Tips

Cheltenham won just one of their last ten away games at the end of last season, and they are likely to pick up the majority of their points at home once again. Leyton Orient will be hoping to get off to a positive start, but it may take them a couple of weeks to pick up their first maximum haul. There doesn’t look to be too much between these two sides, and many are forecasting them to be positioned in lower-mid table this campaign.

The draw seems like the logical outcome of this contest, with the pair settling for a point a-piece on the opening day of the campaign. It is priced at 5/2.

Cheltenham have the energy of Luke Varney to call upon with the ageing striker showing no signs of slowing down. However, Tahvon Campbell certainly could help fire his side up the table this year. The former Forest Green striker scored just three times for his former club, but he didn’t always looked lively when coming off the bench. He could be the man to help break the deadlock in this one.
