Lincoln vs Accrington Stanley Preview

Lincoln always looked likely to make amends for their near miss last season, and the Cowley’s duly delivered on their promise of promotion. The Imps are back in League One, and they’ll be aiming to make a fast start. They have a reputation for being direct, and playing the long ball, but that isn’t neccessarily the case. They’ve also made a move to try and shed that reputation by signing cultured midfielders Joe Morrell, Jack Payne and Jorge Grant in the summer. They’ve not added any defensive reinforcements as they already look fairly well-equipped in this area, and they should keep a number of clean sheets once again this campaign. The main concern surrounding Lincoln this season is their lack of strikers with just Bruno Andrade and John Akinde on their books at the time of writing, although there is plenty of ammunition from midfield areas. Big crowds will be expected at Sincil Bank once again this season, and they will look to get off to the best possible start against John Coleman’s Accrington Stanley.

Accrington proved the bookmakers wrong once again by booking their place in League One with a game to spare. John Coleman’s side had a mixed campaign, but they managed to pick up enough points throughout the season to avoid a return to the fourth tier. Their summer additions looks decent, and Colby Bishop, who arrives from Leamington has hit the ground running in pre-season. Ben Barclay and Zaine Francis-Angol add some youthful legs to the back-line whilst Lamine Sherif comes highly rated. John Coleman isn’t going to change his approach, and his hard-working side are going to cause plenty of surprises along the way this year. There is a slight concern surrounding the absence of Billy Kee, but they should have a deep enough squad to cope with one or two absences this season. Accrington will look to defy the bookmakers once more, and similar to Morecambe in League Two, you should never write them off.

Lincoln vs Accrington Stanley Betting Tips

Lincoln probably drew too many games at home last season, but they were only defeated twice at home all season. The Imps were incredibly effective, particularly from set-pieces at home, and they will probably take a similar approach once again. However, with their new additions, they will always have a Plan B in place, and they should be able to mix it up effectively.

Accrington only won seven times away from home last season, but they picked up points at the Keepmoat, Fratton Park, the Stadium of Light and at London Road. They can’t be dismissed easily, and they will probably get something from this tie. Lincoln didn’t finish sides off last season, and Accrington could make them pay. The draw at 12/5 looks the best option in the 90 minute market.

Finally, many of Accy’s away games did end with both teams finding the net. They also only kept four clean sheets on the road during the entire campaign, and they do still look a bit vulnerable at the back. Both Teams to Score looks like a sensible shout in this one.
