Monaco has built an identity around buying young prospects and selling them for a profit after a few years and usually they manage to replace the players they sold with more young prospects without too much difficulty. But last season showed the pitfalls of such an approach as they struggled in the league eventually finishing 17^th, just outside the relegation zone.

Leonardo Jardim who was sacked due to the club’s poor performance was reinstated after Theirry Henry could not do any better. The only major transfers this season is loss of talented midfielder Tielemans to Leicester and the signings of Gelson Martins, Lecomte and Aguilar.

Lyon will look to fight for the competitive best of the rest positions behind PSG as the club look to ensure regular Champions League football. They have picked up Thiago Mendes and Kone from last year’s surprise team Lille to replace Ndombele and Mendy who left for Tottenham and Real Madrid respectively.

Monaco have had a very poor preseason which does not bode well for the upcoming season. Despite beginning with a 4-1 win over Cercle Brugge, they went to lose to Lokeren 5-0, Lausanne 2-1 and Everton 1-0. They have recovered since to pick up 3 wins and draw before the season begins.

Lyon to have had a disastrous preseason with their only win out of 5 games coming against Arsenal. Apart from that they have lost their other 4 games to Servette 2-1, Genoa 4-3, Liverpool 3-1 and Bournemouth 3-0, with their defense looking very shaky.

Both teams come into the game in terrible form, however, we expect Lyon to pick themselves up and take the win 2-1, with Monaco to get one goal too.
