North Macedonia vs Slovenia Preview – 10/10/2019 Euro 2020 Qualifying

Slovenia went into June’s 1-1 draw off the back of a ten match winless run, and the stalemate in Ljubljana did nothing to help their cause. However, they arrived here amidst a three game winning run and have beaten Poland, Latvia and Israel, netting ten goals in the process. Two of those victories came at home, with their away form still a little ropey despite their 5-0 hammering of the hapless Latvians.

They’ve had seven different scorers in that three match winning sequence and Matjaz Kek has certainly got his team playing with plenty of confidence.

The Slovenians have won just five away games since September 2013 with Malta, San Marino, Lithuania, Montenegro and the aformentioned Latvia the victims.

Although many people may casually throw North Macedonia into the same category as the teams listed above, there is a case to suggest that Igor Angelovski’s men are slightly underrated by the market.

The hosts beat Latvia in September and have been very tough to beat on their own patch. Poland won by a solitary goal here although they were undone by a Marco Arnautovic masterclass last time out. During qualification for the 2018 World Cup, Spain and Italy squeezed past them by a single goal.

If we take the Austria defeat out of the equation, no side has won at this ground by more than a single goal in a competitive contest since Ukraine in October 2015.

Goran Pandev Provides the Experience

36-year old Goran Pandev is one of North Macedonia’s most recognisable names and the experienced veteran will be key to their chances. The Genoa man has hardly featured in Serie A this season playing just 79 minutes of competitive football and he will be desperate to get some minutes under his belt here.

He netted twice during the Uefa Nations League campaign and also hit the target against Latvia a month ago. He is likely to help pull his side through this tricky looking tie and is 7/2 with Betway to score anytime here.

Benjamin Verbic

Dynamo Kiev’s Benjamin Verbic is not one of Slovenian’s most experienced players, however, the midfielder arrives in decent form. He’s scored in the Ukrainian top flight three times already this season and he netted twice at home to Israel last time out. He also found the net against Norway in the Nations League and although all three of his goals have arrived in Ljubljana, he will offer a real threat from deep. He’s also 7/2 with Betfair to score for the second consecutive game.
