Shamrock Rovers vs Apollon predictions and betting tips for this Europa League Qualifier on Thursday 25th July. Shamrock upset Norwegian side Brann in the last round, and they’ll be confident of establishing an advantage in this first leg. Apollon have vast Europa League experience, and will be looking to call upon that in this crucial game.

Shamrock Rovers vs Apollon Preview

Shamrock Rovers weren’t expected to progress against Brann last week, going off as the 2/1 outsiders. Despite this, Stephen Bradley’s side managed to win 2-1 courtesy of a pair of late goals. It allowed them to book their place in the second round of this competition, and allowed the supporters to continue their dream of reaching the group stage. Inbetween games, Shamrock were at their rampant best and put seven goals past hapless UCD. Although their opponents are struggling, they had recently held Derry to a goalless draw, and beaten Finn Harps and Bohs. It was a wonderful home performance from the hosts, and helps preserve their excellent record at the Tallaght Stadium. Shamrock have only lost twice this season in front of their own fans, and both defeats were by slender margins. Their recent home record in this tournament is 2-2, and both losses came by just a single goal. Trevor Clarke is expected to leave the club this week, although he was only on the bench for last week’s victory against Brann.

Apollon are a household name when it comes to the Europa League. The three-time Cypriot champions faced Everton in the group stage two years ago, and picked up some notable results against Marseille and Lazio last season. They eased past their Lithuanian opponents in the previous round, and will be keen to continue their journey. They will make it tough for Shamrock in the second leg, but they could find this tough. They will be used to the sweltering conditions, but their season is yet to get underway so a lack of match fitness could come into play during the latter stages. They have some very dangerous players, with Emilio Nsue on top form. The former Birmingham man has been played further forward, and Apollon have reaped the rewards.

Shamrock Rovers vs Apollon Betting Tips

Prior to last week’s success, I would have been tempted to dismiss Shamrock’s chances, but they have been excellent at home this season. They are always a threat at the Tallaght, and Apollon’s lack of recent competitive action is a concern. This will be tougher than their clash with Kauno Zalgiris, and Shamrock won’t give them much time on the ball. Shamrock Rovers are the outsiders in this clash, but I think it’s worth backing them on the Draw No Bet market. They are available at 6/5 with William Hill, and we will get our money back if it ends all-square.

First legs are typically cagey, but Shamrock have been in free-scoring mode recently. They scored four times across the two legs in the first round, and Apollon shouldn’t just arrive with the intention of keeping it tight. The Cypriots will be keen to avoid any costly mistakes, but they will be keen to get on the score-sheet, and take an away goal back to Limassol. Both Teams to Score? Yes is the outsider of the pair, and that looks worth chancing.
