Liverpool vs Cardiff Predictions

Before the season began, a large number of pundits and fans were falling over themselves to declare that Liverpool would be contending for the Premier League title as a minimum. Well, a quarter of the season in, and so far you’d have to say those people have a point. The Reds are joint top with current champions Manchester City and remain unbeaten ahead of Cardiff’s visit. The Welsh side, meanwhile, picked up their first win of the campaign in a topsy-turvy affair against Fulham. They’ll have to go up quite a few more gears to trouble Liverpool on their own ground though, so I’m expecting Neil Warnock’s men to take a thumping. You can get 10/11 on the hosts winning by three goals or more, with William Hill offering those odds.

Liverpool vs Cardiff Anytime Goalscorer Odds

Although they got the job done against Huddersfield last weekend, there was something missing from Liverpool’s display. A lot of that could perhaps be attributed to the notable absence of talismanic figure Roberto Firmino, who was only afforded a place on the bench against the Terriers. Jurgen Klopp cited the fact that Firmino had played a full 90 minutes whilst on international duty as being the reason for his omission, but one would expect he’ll be straight back in the team here. Bet365 go 10/11 on ‘Bobby’ bagging anytime against Cardiff for our weekend football predictions on this match, with chances sure to come his way.

Liverpool vs Cardiff Team To Score Odds

While Cardiff have hardly been devastating in front of goal this year, it’s fair to say that they haven’t endured quite as much trouble in the final third as some of the teams around them. Although scoring eight goals in nine outings is hardly a brilliant return, it’s not a patch on the poor ‘goals for’ figures posted by the likes of Crystal Palace and Huddersfield. The trouble for Cardiff is that they’re up against a team that has conceded just three times in almost a thousand minutes of football this season. Liverpool no longer show that vulnerability in defence that has held them back in years gone by and I expect them to quell the threat of the Welsh side fairly comfortably. Betfred are paying 8/13 on the visitors drawing a blank at Anfield, which looks a licence to print cash.

Liverpool vs Cardiff Match Result Betting Preview

Liverpool to win – 1/8

Draw – 13/5

Cardiff to win – 33/1

On paper at least, this looks a forgone conclusion – but you can’t really back Liverpool to win at 1/8, can you? Perhaps a more attractive proposition is Liverpool/Liverpool in the half-time/full-time market, which is around 1/2 with various firms.

You have to go as far back as 1959 to find the last time Cardiff beat Liverpool – a convincing 4-0 victory in the old Division Two. That fact of course bears no relevance to them being a huge 33/1 punt to win on Merseyside, but rather underlines the huge gulf in finances and stature currently separating the two clubs.
