World Cup 2018 Predictions Group D – Argentina
After experiencing a rather uncertain qualification process for this summer’s upcoming competition, the 2018 World Cup in Russia is bound to prove a rather exciting spectacle for the nation of Argentina.
Will Messi deliver on his so-called destiny and land that prestigious World Cup trophy for his home country, or does another summer of disappointment and frustration seemingly await these underachieving South Americans?
Will Argentina win the 2018 World Cup?
Argentina must set their expectations reservedly high this summer, there are simply no more excuses for Jorge Sampaoli’s team. The South Americans have served to frustrate far more often than not at recent international tournaments, and now, Argentina will be forced to employ a no-nonsense winning mentality.
Perhaps they will finally start delivering on their untold potential this time around. Lionel Messi will see his name firmly held aloft within the annals of footballing history with the 2018 World Cup trophy held above his head this summer – a sight nearly every contemporary football fan wants to witness sooner rather than later.
Who will be Argentina’s star man at the World Cup?
Once again, Lionel Messi must rise to the forefront and dictate proceedings from the very first whistle. He is yet to truly prove himself on the international scene with Argentina, with the 2018 World Cup providing the perfect stage for the 30-year-old attacker to remind us all of just how much talent he really has.
Although the likes of Paulo Dybala, Angel Di Maria, Mauro Icardi and Gonzalo Higuain will also wish to showcase their attacking skills upon the global stage this summer, Messi is the name that will remain on everybody’s lips once the 2018 World Cup finally comes around.

Whilst Lionel Messi proved the most effective player out on the pitch for Argentina at the previous 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the diminutive Barcelona favourite must step up even further if he is to eclipse his current achievements on the international scene.
When it comes to weaving his way through opposing defenders with maximum ease, finding his likeminded teammates anywhere inside the final third, or simply scoring countless free-kick’s from just outside the opposition’s penalty-box – this is one player who rarely disappoints.
What are Argentina’s Group D fixtures?
Iceland – Argentina begin their opening Group D proceedings with a relatively straightforward fixture against Iceland. If the South Americans really are serious in their desire to finally land that all-important World Cup trophy, then Iceland should ultimately prove very little match for the might of Argentina.
Croatia – The South Americans’ greatest threat in Group D will most likely arrive in the form of Croatia. The likes of Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic can obviously cause trouble, but once again, Argentina should be looking to push their Croatian opposition aside with both confidence and conviction.
Nigeria – Group D’s African representatives are usually no slouches when it comes to proving their worth on the global stage. Whilst Nigeria’s pace could possibly worry Argentina’s rather robust back-line, Jorge Sampaoli must be looking to claim maximum points from his opening Group D encounters.
Argentina’s World Cup Predictions
Lionel Messi arguably goes down as perhaps the greatest ever player to grace the beautiful game with his presence, but as we have already witnessed in several competitions past, the current La Liga favourite cannot be relied upon to conduct everything himself.
Due to the remarkable lack of balance within Jorge Sampaoli’s first-team ranks this summer, it remains somewhat difficult to honestly envisage Argentina going all the way at the 2018 World Cup – even if it ultimately proves to be Messi’s last major hurrah on the international scene.
Relevant betting tips could nonetheless see Messi claim both the golden boot and best player award at the upcoming World Cup proceedings in Russia. Even in possible defeat, the task of stopping Lionel Messi will always prove a troublesome one.
