Real Madrid eye up a swoop for Liverpool’s Sadio Mane

Enjoying a very eye-catching run of form on Merseyside, it is being reported that Liverpool winger Sadio Mane is a man topping Real Madrid’s summer wishlist.

French news outlet France Football have announced that the La Liga heavyweights have reignited their interest in the Senegal international and returning boss Zinedine Zidane wants to make Mane his first signing.

Los Blancos were heavily linked with a move for the Premier League ace last season and the report has gone as far to suggest that the 26-year-old had agreed on a deal in principle to join Madrid before Zidane abruptly ended his first tenure last May.

Mane Madrid bound?

Spearheading Liverpool’s push to the quarter-finals of this year’s Champions League and seen to be arguably Jurgen Klopp’s new attacking talisman, Mane has been in blistering form of late.

Once again finding the net in Sunday’s 2-1 win away at Craven Cottage and seeing Liverpool leapfrog Manchester City to reclaim their spot at the top of the Premier League table, the winger has already bagged 17 top-flight goals this campaign.

Mane is now only one goal behind current leading goalscorer Sergio Aguero and is the only player in the current top five of the scoring stakes who does not take penalties.

The former Southampton man signed a new deal with the Reds back in November that saw him extend his stay at Anfield until the summer of 2023.

However, if the reports coming out of France are to be trusted then Liverpool will be bracing themselves for quite the battle at the end of the season.

After crashing out of the Champions League and enduring their most testing spell in recent memory, Real Madrid once again turned to Zidane as the man to replace a struggling Santiago Solari.

Picking up a 2-0 win over Celta Vigo on his return to the Spanish capital, the French icon is expected to be handed a very lucrative treasure chest in the summer to help rebuild Los Blancos.

After making it clear that they were desperate to bring Mane to the Bernabeu after beating Liverpool 3-1 in last year’s Champions League final, both Zidane and club president Florentino Pérez remain a strong admirer of the 58-cap Senegal international.

Madrid are also being heavily linked with a move for Chelsea talisman Eden Hazard, though the Stamford Bridge club’s ongoing issues with a transfer ban are placing serious question marks around a future agreement.
