Cardiff vs Bristol City Preview – 10/11/2019 Championship

It’s been 17 years since Bristol City last won in South Wales and they’ll be looking to end that long winless run on Sunday lunchtime. Lee Johnson’s side have been one of the best away sides in the division so far this season, although they could find it tough against a side that are yet to be defeated in front of their own fans.

Last weekend, Cardiff fell behind with barely a minute on the clock and looked up against it when they were reduced to ten men. However, the Bluebirds came out on top, courtesy of Joe Ralls. That win over Birmingham was significant as it kept the unbeaten home run going and showed that they don’t need to play particularly well in order to grind out the points at home.

They have a 5-2 record here, with only Preston boasting a better record on their own patch so far this season. They’ve netted 14 times, which is the fifth highest in the division and you’d expect them to find the net here.

Bristol City have just slightly hit the buffers in recent weeks and although they’re very efficient on the road, they’ve not won in four on their travels. The Robins have drawn each of their last two Championship matches 2-2 and are without a clean sheet in four. They’ve conceded in every away games so far this campaign and they have certainly been involved in some entertaining matches. No side has seen their away games feature more goals with an average of 3.38 goals per contest so far.

Striking Problems for Bristol City

Bristol City haven’t had much luck in the injury department this season and losing Benik Afobe was certainly a huge blow. Famara Diedhiou is also banned for this fixture and that perhaps leaves them a little light up top, which is far from ideal. His aeriel threat would have been welcomed by the travelling fans, but the big striker will have to watch from the sidelines.

Andreas Weimann is an almost guaranteed starter, although Lee Johnson will have to decide who sits alongside the former Villa man.

Marley Watkins have looked bright in spells this season whilst Antoine Semenyo is probably a little too raw for the occasion. Summer signing Sammie Szmodics has struggled for game time since arriving at Ashton Gate and this would provide the perfect chance for him to win over those sceptical fans. Finally, Rodri could be the man to start this game – he’s looked fairly dangerous during his brief stint in the XI.

Redemption for Bogle?

Omar Bogle was sent off against Bristol City two years ago with Neil Warnock lambasting the striker and claiming that his dismissal cost his side the game. It’s taken almost 24 months for the forward to get into the manager’s good books and he would love the chance to make amends for his needless lunge.

Bogle has looked lively in dispatches so far and could come off the bench to test the Bristol City defence. He is 47/20 with Unibet to score anytime in this contest.
