Charlton vs Preston Prediction & Betting Tips: Addicks to edge out Preston at the Valley

Charlton betting tips

Charlton vs Preston predictions and betting tips for today’s Championship fixture kicking-off at midday. The visitors are the marginal favourites for this tie, but they could find it tough against Lee Bowyer’s side.

Preston’s home form is outstanding, but they’ve struggled to replicate that form on the road. Can they head back north with something to show for their efforts.

Charlton vs Preston Preview – 03/11/2019 Championship

Charlton remain on the fringes of the play-off places and the Addicks will fancy their chances of securing three points on Sunday lunchtime. Lee Bowyer’s side have been a little inconsistent over the course of the campaign although they’ve won three of their last five matches at the Valley.

Many pundits wrote off Charlton’s chances of success this season, especially considering they lost some significant players in the summer (including Patrick Bauer, who will face his former club this afternoon), but they’ve exceeded all expectations so far. Alex Neil praised the work of Lee Bowyer ahead of the game and the former Leeds midfielder, alongside Johnny Jackson, must take enormous credit for galvanising his players despite uncertainty off-the-field.

There have been a few forgettable moments with their recent last-minute defeat to ten-man Bristol City highlighting their unpredictability this campaign, but you can usually rely on them to get something from these types of games. Even without talisman Lyle Taylor, they’ve found a way to score goals and Macauley Bonne has proved to be an excellent stand-in for the Montserrat International.

Preston did things the hard way last weekend as they came from 2-0 down to secure all three points against Blackburn. The Lilywhites changed their shape in the second half and the addition of Jayden Stockley completely changed the complexion of the contest. Tom Barkhuizen is having another excellent season whilst the hard-working midfield of Daniel Johnson, Alan Brown, Ben Pearson and Paul Gallagher is largely unfussy, but effective.

It’s been a mixed bag away from home with a 1-2-3 record away from Deepdale and they’ve recent suffered defeats at the Madejski and the Liberty. Their only victory on the road came at St.Andrews back in mid-September, although despite this, they have been priced up as favourites.

Bonne to bag again

Prior to his injury, Lyle Taylor had netted five goals in 540 minutes of football with two of those strikes coming from the penalty spot. In his absence, former National League striker Maucauley Bonne has stepped into the breach and has scored the same amount of goals in 551 minutes. He’s proving just as prolific this season and although some of the credit must go to Josh Cullen, Johnny Williams and Connor Gallagher for their assists, he’s kept his composure when its mattered.

He is second favourite in the anytime goalscorer market at 5/2 with Bet365 and is undoubtedly worth backing to score at the Valley on Sunday lunchtime.

Preston’s Penalty Penchant

Preston have been awarded more penalties than any other side in the Championship this season with six decisions going their way. Luckily, they have a man who is deadly from 12 yards. Daniel Johnson is the club’s top goalscorer and is likely to get opportunities in this game.

With a 100% record from the spot this season, it could be worth backing him again to fire home from the spot. He’s 13/5 with Betfair to score anytime.
