Wigan vs Swansea Prediction & Betting Tips: Latics to Continue Outstanding Home Form

Wigan vs Norwich predictions

Wigan picked up a decent point at Ashton Gate last weekend and they’ll be aiming to make it four home wins on the spin as they take on Swansea. Steve Cooper’s side earned local bragging rights as they deservedly beat Cardiff at the Liberty, and they’ll be hoping to put together a decent run and re-ignite their automatic promotion hopes.

Wigan vs Swansea Preview – 02/11/2019 Championship

Wigan’s frustrations on the road continued last week although their performances have been much improved. Paul Cook’s side were undone by a last minute goal from Graeme Shinnie at Pride Park and they battled their way to a creditable 2-2 draw against Bristol City on Sunday afternoon. The Latics were around five minutes from securing a rare away victory and picking up a big three points in the south west.

They’ve set up to be positive in both games and that’s a big step forward for a side who have lost six of their eight away games so far. Cook has promised more of the same and the energetic scouser will be hoping his side can give the home fans plenty to shout about on Saturday lunchtime.

They’ve won four of their first six matches at the DW with just a single defeat so far in front of their own supporters. They’ve also kept four clean sheets on the spin and they’ll be looking to keep it tight once again here.

Swansea were excellent on Sunday and were clearly ‘up for it’ in the South Wales derby. Ben Wilmot’s goal was enough to separate the two sides although a number of players put in eyecatching performances. Matt Grimes was everywhere whilst Andre Ayew worked hard for the cause. At the back, the Swans rarely looked threatened and it was a comfortable 90 minutes for the hosts.

It was an important victory which ended a three-match winless run.

Wigan Keeping it Tight

Wigan’s defence has excelled in recent weeks and they haven’t conceded a home goal August 17th. In that game, the hosts were reduced to ten men very early in the game and always looked set to struggle. Charlie Mulgrew has looked like a savvy signing and he’s been excellent at the DW. Alongside Cheyenne Dunkley, they’ve been commanding in the air and made it incredibly difficult for sides to find a way through.

Forest, Birmingham, Barnsley and Charlton have all failed to score here and Swansea will have to do something special in order to truly test David Marshall.

Swans’ Undefeated Away Record Could Come to an End

Swansea have been pretty efficient on the road so far and are yet to taste defeat on their travels. They were held to a 1-1 draw at Oakwell last time out and although they’ve already come away from Elland Road, Pride Park and Ashton Gate with something to show for it – this could be their toughest test yet.

Although they were brilliant against Cardiff at the weekend, they could struggle to break down one of the division’s most efficient home sides. Only Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds have conceded fewer home goals so far and it’s always ill-advised to write Wigan off at the DW.
