It’s been a poor season for Bordeaux with Les Girondins lying 13th in the table, six points adrift of today’s opponents. Only five top flight sides have scored fewer goals than the southwestern club, with four of those sides situated in the bottom four. They’ve failed to score in 50% of their games this season, and arrive here off the back of two blanks. However, having said that, they are now unbeaten in six at home, and Nice were the last side to take three points away from the Matmut Atlantique on October 28th. Turning draws into wins has been a real issue, one which has prevented them from climbing the table. Lowly duo, Guingamp and Amiens have both collected points here recently, whilst just one goal was enough to edge past poor travellers Dijon.

Montpellier arrived off the back of successive hammerings with PSG netted five against the European challengers, with Reims dishing out further punishment last weekend. However, La Paillade were actually the better side in that game, and they will be desperate to bounce back. They are solid enough on the road, and have drawn four of their last five on their travels. They haven’t won on the road since December 1st, and they could keep Bordeaux contained here. This game looks to be heading for a draw, with neither side in convincing form at the moment. Five of Montpellier’s last eight games have finished in a stalemate, and this could go the same way. Draw is the first of our Ligue 1 predictions.

Under 2.5 Goals is priced at 4/9 and the bookies are envisaging a low-scoring match here. I can’t but agree with that assessment and Bordeaux don’t have the firepower of either PSG or Reims. Montpellier held high-flying Lille to a goalless draw fairly recently, and they are likely to get back to basics defensively. With Unders so short in the betting, it’s advised to look elsewhere, and Under 0.5 First Half Goals could be a decent pick here. Bordeaux vs Montpellier Prediction – Anytime Goalscorer

There are a couple of options in the anytime goalscorer market with in-form Gaetan Laborde towards the top of the market. The Montpellier man does however reserve his best for home matches. Andy Delort is aiming for double figures, but isn’t prolific enough whilst Bordeaux’s top goalscorer Francois Kamano hasn’t scored in a number of months. We’re not sure whether Josh Maja will start this game, so the best pick looks to be veteran Jimmy Briand. The 33-year old has eight goals for the campaign and recently netted in the home match against Toulouse. He is a decent price and is the third of our Ligue 1 betting tips for this evening.

Understandably, Bordeaux are set to start as favourites for this tie and can be backed at 6/4. Girondins are much better at home, and are difficult to beat here. Montpellier are priced at 23/10, although the draw looks likely and can be backed at 19/10.

Under 2.5 Goals is incredibly short and can be backed at 4/9. Over 2.5 Goals has landed in each of Montpellier’s last two games and that is available at 7/4.

It says a lot about this match that ‘No Goalscorer’ is available at 5/1. However, those who fancy a goalscorer bet in this game can back Josh Maja to open the scoring at 13/2 or team-mate Francois Kamano at the same price.
